As part of our Mapping Lost London festival, Antique Beat and A Curious Invitation invite you to uncover the hidden histories of the capital through an afternoon of talks at the atmospheric Guinness Vaults in Covent Garden, presented in collaboration with Stanfords, the UK’s leading specialist retailer of maps and travel books, established in 1853.

MAPPING LONDON - Talk @ 13:30
Revealing the City’s Hidden History with Matt Brown

CHARLES BOOTH - Talk @ 15:00
The Man, the Maps and the Metropolis with Sarah Wise

HIDDEN LONDON - Talk @ 16:30
The Library of Lost Maps with James Cheshire

Every map tells a story. Beneath the familiar streets of London lies a city of vanished neighbourhoods, lost rivers, forgotten institutions and hidden histories waiting to be rediscovered through ink, paper and cartography. From Victorian poverty maps and underground worlds to strange omissions and secret traces, maps reveal not only how London looked, but how it was understood, controlled and imagined.

Within the evocative surroundings of the Guinness Vaults, these three talks journey through the layered geography of the capital, exploring how maps can uncover lost worlds, social histories and unseen dimensions of the city. Expect forgotten stories, remarkable cartographic discoveries and new ways of navigating London past and present.

Awful. Psychic Stevie failed to contact anyone. Which is probably why he cut the show short. It was the hammiest performance I’ve seen. It was like a comedy sketch. Waste of time. Although the setting was beautiful and atmospheric.

Hunt is really good. So fascinating and engaging. I look forward to seeing him again too. So spooky because he has spoken to so many school shooters and his research tells me it can happen anytime.
