We are constantly told these are terrible times. So many of us are feeling it, living it, exhausted by it. We are updated on world events by the minute – with misogyny, abuse and division writ large – and though we know it’s important to pay attention, we often feel powerless to enact change.
In all of this, choosing joy has become a radical act.
So, it fills us with joy to bring together three incredible writers, Kuchenga Shenjé The Library Thief, Anoushka Warden I’m F*cking Amazing and Kate Young Experienced, whose work uplifts and empowers. We’ll delve into whose joy gets shared, whose is excluded, and how we can rebalance this. We will explore ways to seek out happiness, humour, and even silliness – and discover why it is selfless, defiant and maybe even essential to do so.
Expect a fun-filled, fiercely feminist and energetic evening with these brilliant writers, who will bring the joy and show us that optimism is changemaking.
OUR PANEL:
Kuchenga is a writer, journalist and speaker with work on many media platforms including Stylist, British Vogue and Netflix. She has contributed short stories and essays to several anthologies, most notably It's Not OK to Feel Blue And Other Lies, Who's Loving You and Loud Black Girls, and Feminist Book Society’s This is How We Come Back Stronger. Her first novel The Library Thief is the ultimate marriage of her passions for history, mystery and rebels.
Anoushka Warden is a writer for stage and screen. Her second play won the 2020 Platform Presents Playwrighting Prize. She is an Associate Artist at Pentabus Theatre Company and is Producer of two podcasts – The Playwright's Podcast and The Lockdown Plays. I'm F*cking Amazing is her debut novel.
Kate Young is a writer and cook, whose award-winning Little Library Cookbooks feature recipes inspired by beloved works of literature. After a sunny Australian childhood spent indoors reading books she moved to London, which suited her much better. She now lives in a converted factory in a Gloucestershire town. Experienced is her first novel.
