Goth - the bastard musical offspring of Punk and New Romanticism emerged in the early 1980s, spearheaded by bands such as the Cure, the Cult, Bauhaus and the Sisters of Mercy. Against the bleak socio-political background of the 1980s - the Cold War, the Miners’ Strike, the Troubles and AIDS – its gender fluid, outlaw imagery and innovative, atmospheric music spoke to a whole generation of alienated youth.
The acclaimed Brit Noir novelist and music journalist Cathi Unsworth fell instantly under its spell as a teenager growing up on the Norfolk coast. Her latest book, Season of the Witch: The Book of Goth, is a personal and social history of one of the most enduring musical countercultures - one that steadfastly refuses to give up the ghost.
Join Cathi, in conversation with the author and cultural commentator Travis Elborough, for a walk on the dark side.
Copies of Season of the Witch will be on sale on the night.

Cathi Unsworth
Cathi Unsworth is a UK crime writer who inhabits the world of noir. After working for Melody Maker and Bizarre, she began writing novels, with The Not Knowing in 2005 and The Singer in 2007, on Serpent's Tail. Her writing is heavily influenced by Derek Raymond, the godfather of the British noir novel.

2. Tickets are issued subject to the rules and regulations of the venue.
3. Please check your tickets, as mistakes cannot always be rectified.
4. Occasionally, events are cancelled or postponed by the promoter, team, performer or venue for a variety of reasons. If the event is cancelled, please contact us for information on receiving a refund from the responsible party. If the event was moved or rescheduled, the venue or promoter may set refund limitations. It is your responsibility to ascertain the date and time of any rearranged event.
5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.
6. Every effort to admit latecomers will be made at a suitable break in the event, but admission cannot always be guaranteed.
