March the 8th is International Women’s Day. To celebrate, the Metropolitan Literary Salon have invited two inspiring authors, Louise Perry and Lauren Brown, to look at two pertinent issues affecting women across the world: the state of the sexual revolution and mental health.

In conversation with Saqib Mailk, Louise Perry will discuss her debut book “The Case Against the Sexual Revolution”. Lauded by the Guardian as “the most important feminist book of its time”, Perry will provide an illuminating commentary on gender and sex in the 21st century as informed by her work in a rape crisis centre. Louise will highlight how our contemporary hypersexualised culture has failed women and will make a passionate case for a new sexual ethos built around dignity, virtue and restraint.

Statistics today show that women are three times more likely than men to experience common mental health problems. In conversation with Ruth Comerford from Inews, Lauren Brown will open the window to her own battles against a range of conditions as exposed in her memoir, “Hands: An Anxious Mind Unpicked.” With these personal revelations, she will delve deep into the psyche of mental health, OCD and the challenges affecting women today.

Louise Perry
Louise Perry is a freelance writer and campaigner against sexual violence. She has a weekly column in the New Statesman and is press officer for the campaign group ‘We can’t consent to this’, which documents cases in which UK women have been killed and the defendants have claimed in court that they died as a result of consensual rough sex.

Lauren Brown
Lauren Brown is a writer and journalist originally from a working class background in the north-east of England. Lauren  has an interest in mental health and its impacts - particularly on women - relationships, the shifting spectre of the self and the unexpectedly humorous side of darkness.

I'm writing this on behalf of Artists for Gaza. We did not consent for this listing. The information is outdated and the ticket link is not going to the right platform. Our ticket sale is £35 and not £50 so please go to our website www.artistsforgaza.org.uk to get your cheaper ticket. We have contacted Design My Night to flag this.

While the tour by Dr Green was very well presented and interesting, the little scenes in between were incredibly poorly planned and rehearsed, to comical effect, but below expectations at this price point. We were also expecting more than one small cup of hot chocolate halfway through the freezing cold tour, as the ticket cost of £35 is definitely on the high side for a packed group like this. We still enjoyed the tour itself, but expected a lot more.
