Launching Mariska Martina’s Jazz EP

”Someday"

The EP was funded entirely by a Kickstarter campaign set up by Mariska in the autumn of 2018 and features renowned jazz saxophonist Dave O’Higgins on two of the tunes and jazz trumpeter Harisson Cole. The EP was co-produced by pianist Liam Burton, who also made the musical arrangements, and consists of four songs: Devil May Care, Someday My Prince Will Come, Misty, and The Man I Love. ‘Someday’ was recorded at Perry Vale Studios.

Mariska Martina is a Dutch/Peruvian singer-songwriter. After having studied the cello for several years (with Ran Varon at the Hogeschool Voor de Kunsten in Utrecht, The Netherlands), Mariska moved to London in 2015. She made a dramatic change in her career and started a singer/songwriter course at LCCM with Roddy Matthews in October 2015. The year after she was accepted into the second year of jazz-pathway BMus at the same college.

In November 2016 she founded her Quintet, and since then the quintet has already played at various prestigious venues like The Ruby Sings Show upstairs at Ronnie Scott's, Jazz After Dark, the Stoke Newington Music Festival, Toulouse Lautrec and the Crazy Coqs at Brasserie Zédel. Mariska Martina has also played various shows for Sofar Sounds and is a frequent performer at independent bookshop Travelling Through.

In May 2018 Mariska Martina released her debut EP ‘Something Blue’ - an original EP with a strong mental health message - and in September 2018 she released her first single ‘Tied Together’ - a single especially written to be used as the theme tune for upcoming Amazon Prime series ‘Mafia Ties’.

Mariska Martina is inspired by Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux and Melody Gardot, although in her music you can clearly hear the inspiration she gets from her semi-Latin roots and classical music background.

Mariska Martina – Vocals
Liam Burton – Keys
Harrison Cole – Trumpet
FLO MOORE – Double Bass
