Description
Bruce "Mississippi" Johnson is a blues and soul artist from Mississippi, USA. He has captivated audiences around the world with his expressive bass-baritone vocals. Johnson grew up in his grandfather's church, where he got his first musical education, and later, in the company of his father's record collection, where he discovered soulful voices like Al Green, his cousin Jackie Wilson, Lou Rawls, and Gil Scott Heron. Towards the end of his stint serving his country as a marine, Johnson realized he was put on this earth to sing, and thus his performing life took off.
After performing in Africa, he found his place in Paris, performing with players that had shared the stage with stars like Stan Getz and Sammy Davis Jr. Bruce and his band were asked to perform in a competition judged by Nina Simone, which gave him the chance to record his first single and cemented his reputation as a star in the city. He eventually joined the legendary blues bassist Big Joe Turner's band Blues Caravan as a vocalist, which gave him a chance to tour the world and form a solid bond with the keyboard player.
Johnson's debut album, "The Deal Baby," features a unique blend of contemporary blues and soul music. He will be performing this album, as well as songs from some of his favorite blues and soul artists, at Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club in London, accompanied by some of London's finest musicians. Book now to see this stellar act for their special blues weekender.
