In 1988, legendary manga artist and director Katsuhiro Otomo released AKIRA.
Set in a dystopian, cyberpunk-themed 2019, Akira tells the story of Shōtarō Kaneda, a leader of a local biker gang whose childhood friend, Tetsuo Shima, acquires incredible powers after a motorcycle accident, eventually threatening the entire military complex amidst chaos and rebellion in the sprawling futuristic metropolis of neo-Tokyo.
AKIRA quickly garnered a large cult following and is still today considered a landmark of Japanese animation. As apart of our winter season, we'll be transforming 46 & Mercy into neo-Tokyo for a screening of AKIRA. Enjoy one of the coolest films ever made alongside a menu of delicious, new cocktails and food by our friends upstairs at Hotbox. After the film, hang around for an evening of music and drinks.
