Jimmy Smith, the West London Wine School founder, is a flag-flying enthusiastic ambassador for the great value-for-money wines available from the world-class region of Rioja in north Spain. This special evening will unearth a hand-picked selection of Jimmy’s recent and all-time top drops ranging from 2001 to 2018 including a Tim Atkin wine of the year 2021. Jimmy will share his personal experiences of Rioja, explaining through the history, geography, geology, climate/weather, viticulture and winemaking.
Suitable for beginners to enthusiasts to students of wine. Do NOT miss this one!
Rioja
Rioja is as age-worthy as the wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, yet it flies under the radar compared to its more well-known peers. This means that a stellar bottle of age-worthy Rioja can be procured for far less than a similarly rated bottle of Bordeaux or Burgundy. Rioja wine takes its name, like many other wines made in the Old World, from the Rioja region where it is produced.
Rioja is made from a blend of grape varieties, with Tempranillo being the dominant grape. Garnacha is typically included in the blend to add some fruitiness; Mazuelo (also known as Cariñena) and Graciano may also be included.

TASTING FEE STRUCTURE: For this special two-hour tasting, an exclusive tasting kit is included in the listed price which includes a 75ml tasting sample of each wine, as well as tasting mat, tasting note paper and pen. Note: Tasting kits will be despatched to attendees within the week leading up to the tasting.

4. Occasionally, events are cancelled or postponed by the promoter, team, performer or venue for a variety of reasons. If the event is cancelled, please contact us for information on receiving a refund from the responsible party. If the event was moved or rescheduled, the venue or promoter may set refund limitations. It is your responsibility to ascertain the date and time of any rearranged event.
5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.
6. Every effort to admit latecomers will be made at a suitable break in the event, but admission cannot always be guaranteed.
7. We regret that tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase.
