mezcal appreciation society, by sin gusano

Welcome to M.A.S. If you want to really understand the hot topic of mezcal, and sample some of the most exciting distillates on the planet, M.A.S. is the event for you!

M.A.S. is a small group mezcal discovery evening, sometimes held at Sin Gusano HQ, and sometimes hosted by partner bars we love. This edition is in collaboration with:

DOÑA, LONDON

The tastings you will experience at these events are curated by Jon Darby, Sin Gusano's founder, and feature mezcal sourced by him in Mexico and not available elsewhere in the UK.

Ticket price includes:

  • - Welcome cocktail from host venue
  • - Mexican nibbles
  • - Mezcal presentation
  • - Tastings of between 4-6 different and rare distillates, depending on specifics of presentation + top ups!
  • - Palate cleansing fruits and salts
  • - Menu with tasting notes to take home
  • - New mezcal fans to call your friends at no extra cost!
  • - The Doña bar will be open after this Saturday tasting

what customers say

“There is no better mezcal experience outside of Oaxaca whether you are a seasoned mezcal drinker or a newcomer to it. Jon really opens up the world of artisanal mezcal, not just through his unique collections of directly sourced mezcals but also through a first hand knowledge of the processes and the characters behind them” - Giles.B, M.A.S. London regular

WHAT THE INDUSTRY SAYS

“Jon is one of the most dedicated and enthusiastic people working in the agave industry. His constant searching for rare and delicious distillates means Sin Gusano has some of the most interesting and diverse bottlings found in Europe. When I see Jon, I’m always excited to try his unique mezcal”. - Melaine Symonds, Quiquiriqui Mezcal & London Mezcal Week

Charitable Pledge

As with all Sin Gusano events and products, a portion of any profits is sent back to worthy causes in Mexico. More info here.

Getting there

Organiser

Sin Gusano
The Sin Gusano project is working for the wider understanding and preservation of artisanal agave distillates – traditionally known as “Mezcal” – as well as the sustainable development of rural, mezcal producing regions of Southern Mexico. 5% of profits from the UK business are committed to charitable and sustainable growth programs in Oaxaca, the home of mezcal and the poorest state in Mexico. Now in it's second year and second physical location, the Sin Gusano bar & taqueria is a little piece of Oaxaca in East London. Our tasting events give us time to get geeky about mezcal with customers that want to get into the details, while the door is closed. But the bar is open to the public from 5pm every Thurs - Sat. Serving the tastiest Mexican food and mezcal based cocktails around, as well as all the mezcal in our ever growing library.

Great Mezcal Tasting! Lots of info about local and community traditions in different regions of Mexico and how this ancestral tradition keep a strong identity directly from the families who cultivate the agaves from the field to this humble small batch artisanal and complex and beautiful spirit.

Great evening checking out the new Sorbito premises for More Than Mezcal tasting events. This one focused on the anthropological side, understanding the local community and the role mezcal plays in terms of local environmental and farming knowledge, and it's relevance to communities. We got to try out some really unique mezcals during the event, have a chat with fellow mezcal enthusiasts and check out the incredible variety from the sampling machines. Can't wait to see what's next and would highly recommend swinging by one evening and keeping an eye for future events and guest speakers.
