Perhaps I wrote an overly critical review below, it is a beautifully decorated space, the staff very friendly, the drinks delicious, and the tour was great. I appreciate your response, I hadn't realised all that went into making the drinks. Perhaps it'd be an idea to have a little description of how each one was made on display around the bar, (eg hand-infused xxx syrup, gin steeped with cloves for 6 months, thyme hand-picked from the apothecary garden etc) I'd defintely find that interesting (and would have appreciated the flavours & input more)... I better understand the pricing now, and appreciate the care and quality that goes into the drinks, nevertheless if it were possible to make them just a little cheaper they would feel far more affordable. A fun night, nice atmosphere and set-up, great food, tour and cocktails but the cocktails were far too expensive - they'd be much better priced at £4-5 rather than £8. (particularly when compared with places such as Cahoots which is fully themed, staffed and central with many cocktails at £8 or Mildreds, also central london with cocktails at £6.50, neither of which have entrance fees etc) also given the high prices to sit on benches outside it was ridiculous to then spend an hour or more being ordered around by a photographer: we weren't paid models, we didn'travel and spend time and money to be told where and how to sit, what to do, how we should put our hair or smile or hold our marshmellows etc if we were going to be interrupted and bossed around we shouldn't have had to pay for the pleasure. All that said, I'm assuming that the photographer is not normally there, and if the cocktails were more reasonably priced then I would definitely go again, pay for many more dirnks, and reccommend it... as it was, it was just a bit too expensive for what it was Visited Brunel Museum Rooftop Garden on 2015-11-07

Thanks very much for taking the time to review Midnight Apothecary. Regarding our botanical cocktails, we use the very best premium spirits and beer sourced as locally as possible which are often small batch eg Jensen's Old Tom gin from Bermondsey and Hiver Honey Beer, also from Bermondsey and we hand-infuse all our syrups, mixers and other infusions with organic high quality ingredients. We also ensure that all cocktails are at least a double measure of alcohol (eg 50ml). So we are never going to compete on price with cocktails from Cahoots. The entrance fee goes directly to the museum which includes a guided tour of the underground Grand Entrance Hall (normally £6) and access to the museum Engine House.. We also offer complimentary toasted marshmallows and sparklers in the price. So overall I hope you can see it's a good deal. I am very sorry about the experience you had with the photographer from Time Out. I would be delighted to offer you complimentary entry to another event where I can assure you there will be no photographers. Again thank you for taking the time to review our bar. Lottie

Not as good as the reviews make it. Cocktails are expensive (at £8) for how small they are. The fire is also pretty small and can only seat about 15 people around it -- some people brought kids which changed the event's vibe. The lack (nonexistent) music makes for little to no atmosphere. However, the tour of the tunnel shaft is interesting and the souvlaki is delicious. I probably wouldn't go again, but I enjoyed myself and would recommend it to a friend for a quiet date night. Thank you for your review. Our botanical cocktails always have a double measure (50ml) of alcohol unlike many cocktails that only have 35ml. We use the highest quality spirits and mixers (organic where possible) and sourced as locally as possible eg Jensen's Old Tom gin and Hiver Honey Beer, both from Bermondsey. All our mixers and infusions are made using the highest quality seasonal organic ingredients and are infused by hand so we are never going to be able to compete with the cheapest cocktail providers. Similar cocktails in other parts of London are offered between £9 and £15 so we are extremely competitive. We are in a residential area so we do not provide music outside preferring to leave the sound of the river and crackling firepit. Most people love the giant candles, hurricane lamps and sound of the river as a backdrop to a magical evening. The great thing about the firepit is that every hour there is a tour of the underground chamber, which means new people are able to come and sit by the fire while others do the tour. So people who want to sit by the fire can do so. I'm sorry it wasn't as you hoped and trust that there are plenty more experiences in London that would better suit your preferences for a night out.
