A Veteran DJ with over 35 years’ experience, he grew up listening to Funk, Soul, Disco and Reggae in the 1970’s, which have remained a constant influence in his life. After sneaking in to underground after hours parties in the late 70’s he was totally blown away by the music the DJ’s were playing, mostly underground imports that were not widely available and certainly couldn’t be heard outside these select parties. This led to him searching out these elusive records and visiting specialist record stores. This was the beginning of a life long passion for collecting vinyl.
In 1986 he moved to New York City for 2 years, where he witnessed first-hand the explosion of the house music scene that took the city by storm. In NYC he discovered the leading DJ’s of the time such as Larry Levan, Tony Humphries, Tee Scott, Bruce Forest, Frankie Crocker and Timmy Regisford, these DJ’s had a major influence on him and further helped shape his musical taste.
On his return to the UK he started DJ’ing in local venues and all across the UK playing the records he had bought back from NYC along with the latest tracks that were coming out of the Big Apple and the Windy City. He would return on a regular basis to NYC to buy records and visit clubs like Zanzibar, Shelter, Red Zone, Sound Factory, The Tunnel, The Loft, Body & Soul, Sound Factory Bar, Wild Pitch and Black Box. His collection of well over 15,0000 records includes a wide range of music including Disco, Funk, House, Gospel, Jazz, Afrobeat, Latin, Reggae, Broken Beat, and Soul.
Teji stands out from most Dj’s with his innate ability to mix different styles with passion and fluidity making the music sound seamless. That along with his expansive collection of music and keen ear for sound makes him a truly extraordinary DJ. Whether taking the crowd on a 8 hour Musical journey or playing a peak-hour set, his sets are always exciting and memorable
