As well as having 25 open mic slots for works of up to 25 lines, there are a number of music acts and a real party vibe to celebrate the first year of Soho Poetry Nights and all the friends we've all made. Our featured poet is Michelle Penn reading from her debut pamphlet 'Self-portrait As A Diviner, Failing’ and our headline poet is Glyn Maxwell whose volumes of poetry include 'The Breakage', 'Hide Now', and 'Pluto', all of which were shortlisted for either the Forward or T. S. Eliot Prizes. There will be music from Angus Strachan and also from Bird Radio, who sets the words of Walter de la Mare and Ted Hughes 'Crow' to an avant-garde folk vibe. Lucy Lyrical will be singing one of her trademark comic verse ukelele songs as well as reading a couple of pages from her debut novel 'Three Women'. Lovable LGBT Poet Laureate Trudy Howson will be our compere for the start of the evening and she'll be introducing a opening set from the patron saint of Soho, Jeremy Reed, who has had dozens of in-yer-face poetry collections published. The culmination of the evening will the launch of a number of torch / chanson songs, to be performed for the very first time in public, from the composer Christopher Frost and verse playwright Barney Ashton-Bullock, who are the team behind the all new third part of their established, sell-out theatrical 'Andy Bell is Torsten' song-cycle which will be called 'Queereteria : Backstreet Theatrical Trash'. Barney and Chris's performance will be an exclusive advance taste of the all new theatre show and concept album that will star Erasure's Andy Bell in Spring 2019.
