BOLD MELLON PRESENTS:  BELINDA

www.boldmellon.co.uk/

In a pulpably tense tarot reading, best friends Ruby and Rose peel back their queer impostor syndrome, squeeze their subconscious and expand the latex of their joyful, queer bubble.
Igniting their fears and leaning into the surreal, Belinda combines British narrative with Eastern European flair; delving into the complexity of queer culture in a society which demands we be digestible.

Originally called ‘Searching for Belinda’ , the show premiered as a part of the Not the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2021, with two sold out work-in-progress performances at Above the Stag,

Bold Mellon has spent the last year researching, interviewing and collaborating with young queer people in London through an artistic residency with the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, regular devising workshops at NDT Broadgate through Migrants in Theatre and scratch performances at Runt of the Litter, The Others, The Union Theatre (Patch Plays) and NDT Scratch.

November 2021 marked the beginning of Bold Mellon Collective’s artistic residency at the Above the Stag’s Cabaret Lounge - where we have SOLD OUT 3 community events - Bold Mellon Scratch Shows/Bacchanal - showcasing emerging underrepresented queer voices in theatre, film and music. We have also fundraised for Queer Svit - an NGO that supports Ukrainian, Belarusian and Russian LGBTQ+ people.

BELINDA explores the intricacies of queer impostor syndrome and how the capitalisation of the pink pound, lack of queer spaces and queerbaiting contributes to the issue.

The two friends, just like many members of our community, find solace through grounding themselves in queer mysticism, queer joy and friendship.
