Stories have the power to shape how we see ourselves, our neighbours and the world around us. But what happens when the stories being told are not our own?

Common Ground brings together filmmakers, faith leaders and cultural voices for an open and thought-provoking conversation about how we engage with stories and experiences beyond our own communities. How do we listen without assuming? How do filmmakers represent people whose lives and beliefs differ from theirs with honesty and dignity? And how can faith communities respond to challenging stories with curiosity, compassion and the love of God in a way that dispels fear and judgement?

Using film as a meeting place, the conversation explores representation, empathy, responsibility and the courage to encounter perspectives that may challenge our own. At its heart is a simple question: can stories help us recognise our shared humanity without erasing the differences between us?

Join Jenny Lee, Andy Frost and Luke Walton as we explore how to engage with stories beyond your own experience with greater curiosity, empathy and discernment — finding common ground without losing sight of meaningful difference.
