Our review of the bottomless recovery brunch at The Clapham North

What with the novelty of The Clapham North being a five minute walk from our flat not being lost on me, my boyfriend and I roared at the chance to try their new recovery brunch event as drinking from midday is a play only saved for the brave. While we've teased with their lunch menu before, I was looking forward to seeing how this seemingly casual pub could hold its own against the roster of other bottomless brunches in London.

The Food and Drink

Fresh from a night in the evening before, the recovery brunch wasn't necessarily life-saving for us as a pair, but breakfast not made by your own hand is always welcome to lazy luggers like us. Coming in at just £15 for your plate alongside a box of cures for your ailing brain such as Berocca, sugar, sunglasses and a game of Cards of Humanity, this is a reasonable price not only for your dish, but the fact you can walk away with a pocketful of Haribo. Want to top that up with bottomless prosecco for an hour and a half, you're only looking at another £15.

Helping us with a kick-start to our meal, we opted for their Berocca cocktail; punchy, tart and sweet enough to salve your hangover, this was a great way to start what I now consider to be the finest full English vegetarian in South London. Both of us opting for the same plate, we were waiting for a lack of hash brown, a slither of tomato and a teasing of toast. Some of you don't know how hard vegetarians get it in the full English department. Much to our surprise, The Clapham North clearly have no failings here. Not only are the plates massive, ours was topped with baked beans, double dosed on hash browns, pert with fried mushroom and accompanied by a cheese croquette that threw the dish into a whole other, greasy breakfast league. Warming, honest food with a side of insulting each other of Cards of Humanity? This is my kind of morning.

Summary

We made a massive error when starting this bottomless brunch, we didn't start it with a hangover. While clearly tailored to those looking to wash their queasy woes away with Berocca and bites, the recovery brunch at The Clapham North isn't strict about only serving those with their heads hung low. Not only one of the best vegetarian breakfasts i've had in London, the price is reasonable, the vibe is friendly and our waiter closed the brunch with a hug, which as someone with no sense of personal space, I rate
