Description

The Good Egg brings Tel Aviv cooking to Soho.

Their second venue after opening in Stoke Newington, the restaurant has set up shop in the Kingly Court complex, These guys are renowned for their brunches, with dishes like bacon and egg pita with date jam, pickled cucumber and mango amba, as well as Shakshuka, which is baked eggs with tomato, peppers and preserved lemon yoghurt. These are washed down with classics like Bloody Mary and Mimosas, but also cocktails like Cardamon coffee – Absolut vodka and a double espresso mixed with housemade cardamom syrup and milk, served over ice.

Their onsite pita oven and smoker means that their evening menu has dishes like pastrami cured salmon and caper schmear, or za’atar fried chicken thighs with chilli honey. There's also a bakery, delivering challah, bagels, babka, and flatbreads. Meanwhile, the cocktail menu fuses American with eastern Mediterranean, along with a strong selection of wines, craft beer and coffees too.

Service was really good, had a lovely and smiley waitress! Unfortunately, was slightly disappointed with the food itself. Very oily, didn't have much flavour and portions were fairly small for the price. The evening ended up being a far more expensive meal than anticipated! Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-05-16

We enjoyed a delicious brunch on Saturday. It took a while to have our order taken, but the waitress was apologetic when I told her how long we'd been waiting, and after that everything was perfect. The food was great, the service was great, and afterwards the manager was attentive and really courteous. I would return for the food anyway, but it was not being rushed, and the manager's courtesy, that made the difference and a good reason to return. Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-05-12

We came for Sunday brunch in soho. Sad to say but worst service ever! Shakshuka was undercooked, plates were thrown to us. All the stuff was rude when asked to cook eggs better.. the coffee was spilled all over the sides. Felt like we were forgotten as we had to ask for a bill three times and no one really cares that we’re in the rush.

The table lights are badly located when trying to share food! They’re too big and right in centre of table of 4, so you can’t easily see each other or share the food round Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-05-10

Great venue- a calm oasis in a courtyard full of buzz and atmosphere just off Kingly Street in Kingly Court. The food was delicious- wonderfully balanced flavours and textures- our dishes coming well recommended by a knowledgeable and enthusiatic waitress. I loved the concept of sharing dishes- very Middle Eastern- as it gives oportunity to experiment with a greater range of flavours but it was evident that a lot of thought had gone ino how any mixture of dishes might balance and complement one other. They also kept the concept of generous middle-eastern hospitality as the dishes were appropriately sized (not skimpy, not over endowed) and gracious hospitality was in evidence. We could hardly fit in dessert after 2 starters, 2 veggie dishes, 1 fish dish, and 1 side between 2 of us..but we indulged and shared a superb chololate ice-cream :-) A great evening thanks to The Good Egg Soho! The food was really tasty and varied, we all liked it. We had the red wine and that was nice too. We asked for olives with our wine while we were waiting for our friends to arrive and were told the pickle dish had olives so we ordered that, it came with one olive so were a little disappointed. We pointed this out to another waitress who kindly brought us a small plate of olives, would have been nice the first time round to do that. When we arrived our table had previously had something spilt on it and was sticky, the waitress wiped it for us however I'd already rested my arm on sticky patch, more attention to these details. It was my friends first visit and they loved the food and hole experience as my guests. Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-05-11

We really enjoyed the food and it's great to come across new flavours and food combinations. The Good Egg seems to be doing something a bit different to a lot of the competition and that made the evening a bit special. I will be going back. Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-05-09

The food and coffee were generally good but it was the worst service I'd had in a while. We had to re-order our drinks because they didn't come, and our food arrived at completely different times. I also ordered something that had the option of adding bacon, which arrived several minutes after the rest of the dish. We also had to go and ask for the bill because no one was coming near our table, despite the fact the staff member had taken our food and drink orders he still asked us where we were sitting. The restaurant was half empty and had plenty of staff so I've no idea why the service was this bad, and not exactly friendly to boot. I really wanted to like this place, and I'm not usually too fussed about customer service, but I found myself slightly embarrassed to have brought my friend here as a treat. the food was good but service super slow and the waitress somehow managed to make it our fault our food was late - weird vibe. We did get one dish for free since they took so long to arrive (surrounding tables all had food but not us - I think they must have lost the order). Also the dish we got free was supposed to be £9 and was literally 3 canapé mouthfuls so thank goodness we didn’t pay. If service improves, and maybe more consistency with sizes of the main dishes (some were really generous, others tiny) it would be good. Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-05-02

Food was delicious though the red meat we ordered was a bit chewy but still tasted delicious The pickle plate was great the tomato’s were especially delicious but the fennel tasted really medicinal Because of the cloves And we ordered Halloumi the first order was crispy and amazing but we ordered another portion and that was a bit squishy and squeaky they also could do with a coat rack as we were seated on the benches and there was nowhere to put you coats as we had no chair backs Over all I’d definatly come back to eat there were lots of delicious things Especially exceptional was the ZFC Nom! Also on Apple maps they send you to the red lion I don’t know if that’s something the restaurant could look into Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-04-29

The food was brilliant, and we even got to take home a doggy bag because the portions were great. Why didn't it get 5 stars though? The service was awful. Nice to be sat outdoors in the buzz of Kingly Court, food was ok - aubergine and hummus stand outs. However we felt it was overpriced, plus white wine starts at £28 a bottle, next up is £32 a bottle so they could do with a more reasonably priced starting point for wine based on their overall offering. Saw the ZFC on sunday brunch and thought it looked delicious. To be fair, it was. However, we were a table of 5 and no-one explained that the idea is to get a bunch of dishes and share, they will all come out when they are ready. £12 is a bit pricey for a sharing dish so we assumed they were meals. Had to wait 10mins between each dish. If you wanted to eat something with something else, be prepared for one of them to go cold. They got our drinks order wrong too. Not too much of a hassle since they fixed it, but we did have to wait another 10mins for them to bring out the correct drinks. All in all it was quite expensive, we all left rather hungry and even more frustrated at how slow the service was. It was a Tuesday, not even busy. Dread to think what its like on Friday/Saturday. At least the chicken was good. Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-04-10

The restaurant is quite nice and although it’s in a busy area (carnaby street) you feel that it’s spacious and had the right numbers of tables. However, the service is a bit slow and the mains came all at different times, which isn’t ideal when you are a group of four friends dining out together. At first the service was incredibly rude. I had heard the service was bad, and this turned out to be true! I would say it is the worst service I have had in London. Service was great, food was excellent, I found the seating a little odd - somehow, despite the vast amount of space in the restaurant, we were tucked up against a wall and just felt a little restrictive. Otherwise lovely! Will come again :) Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-02-06

Service was great and the venue was neat and welcoming. I loved the list of cocktails and the food was good but the size of the sharing Jerusalem platter was very disappointing. Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-02-03

Honestly, the food was excellent - but the service was poor. Our booking was for 2pm; we were not sat until 2:20 and by 2:30 we still didn't even have tap water at the table. What's the point of making a booking if you can't even order food until 30 minutes past your supposed booking time? The staff were nice but seemed to have their heads in the clouds, and the entire restaurant seemed a bit disorganised. Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-01-27

3 times other people's drinks were brought to us. And no one asked if we wanted more drinks when they brought the food. The food was nowhere near as good as I've heard the Stoke Newington branch is, and the décor lacked soul and charm. Sadly I think I'm going to have to endure the queues in Stokey if I want to try the real Good Egg, rather than this pale imitation. Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-01-28

Knowing the restaurant in Stokie, we have enjoyed past visits, but the Soho branch felt more like a chain, and less cool/chic/hipster. Not great value for money, and no pickle back! Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-01-23

Excellent food - everything amazingly tasty because care is taken to source all ingredients (I gather they have a sustainability award). Eggs that taste like eggs! Potatoes as if home grown. Service spot on considering they were very busy. Unusual menu - Jewish deli meets middle Eastern? Go try it and enjoy! Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-01-13

Good food, value was just about there, not sure why dips don't include something to 'dip'? Only complaint, music turned up to beyond levels half way through meal, I'm sure even the young guys thought it was too loud...maybe the staff didn't. Oh and top marks to the girl serving our table, she was a credit to you, very polite and working hard... Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-01-11

It is a shame that a resturant that is part of the sustainable resturant network is selling coca cola products and has them so promptly on show. You should also give more information on your menu about where your meat is from and whether it is free-range. The food was lovely and the staff were great. You were able to adapt it to a dairy free option, but it would be nice to see more vegan options available. Visited The Good Egg Soho on 2018-01-07
