All roads lead to Red Rooster as we ring in the new year with an epic party! First dine on our delicious feasting menu (email reservations@thecurtain.com to book!) after which we’re incredibly excited to invite to the stage Nubiyan Twist, a seven-piece afrobeat, dance and jazz band. Their sound is a dynamic combination of soulful vocals (courtesy of Submotion Orchestra’s Ruby Wood), live electronics and a powerful rhythm section boasting members from Brazil.
Fresh off a summer of festivals, a sell-out date at Jazz Café and a European headline tour culminating at the massive Brixton Electric we’re confident they’ll bring the energy and ensure you’re on your feet for the first moments of 2020.
In support will be Brighton’s finest DJ duo Mr Bongo spinning a host of worldly sounds – bringing Brazilian, Latin, African, Jazz, Soul, Reggae and Psychedelic flavours to the dance-floor with a seemingly bottomless stock of weird and wonderful selections. Their story begins in Venezuela 30 years ago – filling suitcases with amazing Latin records to bring back to Europe. And it continued ever since; private warehouse visits in the US, dusty back street basements in South America, houses and garages in Africa, and lesser-known spots in Europe and Asia.
