What they say:
Having excelled with Barrafina, a Covent Garden based Spanish eatery, the Hart Brothers now look to tackle the competition in London's well-represented Mexican culinary scene. The restaurant will revolve around all things Taco; alongside a variety of fish, meat and vegetable dishes, the signature Al Pastor taco hopes to pack a culinary punch, composed of pork marinated in dried chillies, spices, achiote and orange juice. And of course, to quench all your concerns, the bartenders offer up an array of Mexican beers and a selection of Mezcal and Tequila-infused cocktails.
What we say:
If Barrafina was anything to go by, El Pastor will undoubtedly guide its guests through some of Mexico's more complex flavour combinations. The team have bagfuls of experience, and as such have crafted a menu of exquisite drinks. But this spot's success will be determined by its food, specifically the ingredients and cooking techniques. Crucially, their upright 'trompo' grill allows for succulent cuts of meat and fish to be delicately cooked, producing a selection of palatable tacos and tostadas. If they can capture the same authenticity that flowed through their previous venture, El Pastor will have no trouble rising above the tide.
