Description

The Fentiman Arms is a gorgeous pub, with a simply fantastic Club Room, just a short stroll from the Oval and Vauxhall tubes.

With its own bar, large windows, comfy furniture and kitsch inspired decor, no-one else in the area has anything of this physique. It’s superb for long lunches on big sporting days, and equally perfect for drinks parties, intimate dinners and special occasions. Their Club Room is a flexible space, perfect for hiring out or watching sports and has two distinct sections - the bar area and the dining area (or even dance floor). The great garden, designed by award winning Stephen Woodhams, is also wonderful for BBQ parties and lazy summer lunches.

Serving up gastro style grub in a humble enviroment, dining guests can spoil their palate with dishes such as rainbow trout fillet and clam linguine, all served with a stellar selection of bottles, the likes of local real ale, international bottles of wine and favoured beers.

The Fentiman staff were great. I was able to organise in advance how I wanted the party to be set up and then on the night all the staff were helpful and accommodating. The event space upstairs is great and everyone that came said they had a lovely time. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 16 Sep 2017

We had our wedding party here and it was fantastic! We booked the upstairs room which had loads of space and our own bar. The staff and food were great, I would recommend it to anyone looking to organize a party in south London visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 26 Aug 2017

My reservation was for a private, daytime meeting between representatives of Save Oval Streets campaign and officials from TfL and Lambeth. We requested the provision of tea, coffee and water, which were provided for self-service. All arrangements met my request, which had been paid for in advance. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 01 Aug 2017

After a long day at the cricket we were looking forward to a nice dinner. We didn't get one! They say the amount of people in a restaurant is a reflection of how good it is and that was definitely true in this case- there were just 2 other people eating. Overpriced with half of the food available, we only had 4 dishes to choose from. We gave up and went to the Riverside instead which was much better and just a 10 minute walk away. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 30 Jul 2017

Extremely limited menu due to cricket, and almost no beers available at the bar. And to top it off after waiting 45 minutes some of our food was sent to another table. You'd think a pub next to Oval would maybe know the cricket schedule and be able to plan stock in advance. Seems like a basic requirement of running a pub in that location. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 31 Jul 2017

Shame about running a reduced menu inside for a "cricket" Sunday. Seemed like the reduced menu was also all the most expensive dishes! Otherwise still a good pub visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 30 Jul 2017

The food was great - when it eventually came. It was a busy International cricket day but despite pre-ordering, the main course took over 1 1/2 hrs to arrive. In fairness to the manager the food was free as compensation for the wait - but sadly it did mean we missed most of the afternoon session. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 27 Jul 2017

Not good on a test match day: 1. Struggled to find where our booked table was on arrival – directed to wrong side of crowded bar. Only one waitress knew the table plan. Useful to have this info near the door. 2. It turned out you didn’t have a table for us and had to have one made up for us upstairs 3. You didn’t know our food order despite us emailing this through. We showed you our email. 4. We didn’t order a starter as we wanted a quick lunch so as not to miss much cricket – despite arriving before 1 pm, we waited until 2 pm for our main course. During this time everyone else got starters but it seems you couldn’t accelerate our mains. 5. We then said we would have our desserts only if they were quick and were told they would be two minutes. 15 minutes later we left without dessert! 6. All your staff were very polite and friendly and apologetic etc. 7. The food was delicious. 8. You didn’t charge us for the drinks we ordered with the food as the food was slow – thank you. I appreciate that you are keen to serve food of a high standard but as cricket fans what we want on these days is a quick in and out and are happy to compromise on the food. We would happily pay a similar price for something that you could serve quickly. We have eaten with you over many years and would like to do again but we are bringing clients who want to watch the cricket. We probably won’t come again unless you can show us there is a quick lunch option. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 27 Jul 2017

I lived in Vauxhall for over 20 years, spent many a convivial weekend in this pub and even held my 10th Anniversary party in the garden nearly 13 years ago (spending two grand in the process). Sadly, the Fentimen of Sunday 2nd July 2017 was not the same due to one simple error - insufficient staff. It was a glorious Sunday afternoon and (easily predictable) the place was packed, but there was only one poor individual (run ragged) serving the entire garden (so he could not take food or drink orders). Consequently, the two guys and one gal behind the bar were faced with queues three-deep and customers getting increasingly irate despite their very best efforts (and these too were run ragged). To add insult to delay, I was presented with a bill for £227ish when the actual amount was £186.07 - poor, poor, poor. Never again I fear since the Latchmere in Battersea is much better value with amazing Sunday roasts and, more importantly, without the "fall-of-Saigon" atmosphere at the bar....*shudder* visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 02 Jul 2017

Bland bland bland, and over priced for what it really is.... Service is so lack lustre that you would feel more special getting your own ketchup, cutlery and napkins at a Nandos. And i'm saying this as one paying for what use to be my "local" the menu is boring burgers and salmon it use to be seasonal and exciting but the new staff is rude and un-interested bordering on rude to be kind. Spare yourself the time and visit something more exciting on the riverside by Vauxhall or Clapham...

I think more care and attention to the garden plants& trees should be undertaken. They looked lovely after the refurbishment but have been allowed to die. Dirty tables outside and glasses drinks were served in were grubb and in-uniform i.e. Gin & tonic sometimes in nice big round glasses, the in short stubby too small glasses.. Needs someone with a keen eye to keep overall smartness of the place up to scratch visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 25 Jun 2017

Poor service, food took nearly an hour to serve, drinks again seemed to be a complex operation that took time. I was asked if thee were any special conditions and on the booking form said it was my. birthday. The acknowledgement was, after we had waited long enough for the food order, I asked how long it would be and the floor manager asked if it WAS my birthday and gave me a sweaty handshake. My steak was ok but the fish cake was stodgy, underseasoned and the two orders of fish and chips were ordinary. Apart from that I had a lovely day. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 18 Jun 2017

The pub & terrace are lovely, the staff really nice, efficient & friendly but sadly the food is poor to mediocre. The menu reads well but I have eaten here on five different occasions & had something different from the main course menu each time & without fail it had been very disappointing. Unfortunately the people I was with all said the same thing without fail. Someone needs to take a serious & professional look at the what is coming out of the kitchen. Overall I would say there is a distinct lack of flavour. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 08 Apr 2017

I had a great Engagement drinks on Saturday night. We reserved an area, I bought balloons and it was lovely. The staff were really friendly and once they knew what we wanted they took great care of us. There was no minimum spend so we didn't feel under pressure and could just enjoy ourselves. I might suggest that in future the Fentiman Arms might want to put one waiter with the party so that they could stay on top of clearing, pouring drinks (as we did buy bottles) but if you're looking for a no frills, yet fun place I would recommend it! visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 01 Apr 2017

Fentiman is a local and I love the atmosphere and it's got a good selection of drinks. However the food is really poor value for money - portion size is totally out of touch with the price point compared to similar pubs nearby. One friend had the fish cake as a main and had to then order additional sides afterwards because it was not at all filling but the price suggested it would be a full main course. This is disappointing because otherwise it's a great place to meet. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 24 Mar 2017

Always a great ambience and friendly service but guys, SORT OUT THE APPALLING FOOD! I dine at The Fentiman Arms and it's always been great and I'll be back again soon. But booking in for lunch for the Christmas menu was the most almighty palaver. I swear this is true: it was easier to apply for my credit card earlier this year than to book a Christmas meal at the Fentiman Arms. The IT isn't robust or reliable, and there were so many hoops to jump through. I tried calling in to do it face to face but that wasn't possible either. The food wasn't up to scratch either - sour soup, dry turkey and indifferent vegetables. Go for Sunday lunch or a mid-week dinner and you'll have a great time. But until you know they've got a grip on the situation think twice about taking a colleague out for lunch in the run-up to Christmas. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 20 Dec 2016

Everone really enjoyed the overall experience. The room was nicely decorated and the staff nice and friendly. The starters and main were excellent and there were no disappointed comments, the puddings however were a real let down. The crumble was bland and the apples were quite powdery. There were also comments around the figgy pudding not being anything at all really. This is where people felt it really fell down. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 01 Dec 2016

Nice looking pub with great outdoor area for the summer. Well appointed inside. Charming staff. However, food very disappointing indeed. No quince chutney for the game terrine; told apple instead. None of that either. Then they had run out of custard - despite spotted dick and jam roly poly on the menu. Disappointing presentation of food. And all this for £40 a head. Will go elsewhere another time. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 13 Nov 2016

Nice pub with not so nice staff. Our waitress was lovely but the two male waiters/barmen we all found to be cold and dismissive. Don't work in the service industry if you don't want to interact with people. When people make comments about the food tell them you're sorry and you'll inform the chef rather than muttering 'ok'. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 12 Nov 2016

We really enjoyed the evening and the food. Think the dining area upstairs a really good idea. Very nice staff and good atmosphere all round. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 05 Nov 2016

Food took a long time to come which didn't really matter but one person had to wait for his main course so long that the rest of us had finished by the time it came. We preferred the old decor in the front area. But we still love the Fentiman Arms, and will still be frequently visitors. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 02 Nov 2016

We are regulars at the fenti and this was the first time we had eaten there since the re opening. We were very disappointed at both the time it took to get our food and the quality. Our starters were substituted without discussion and the quality of the main was poor. It's a shame as we had always previously enjoyed the food, we also thought it was very expensive for the standard, you can get much better and cheaper even in Covent Garden or soho ! Sorry to say that we won't be eating with you again. visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 01 Nov 2016

I lunched with 11 friends on Nov 1st. The main course took a very long time (more than an hour) to arrive, and then not all at the same time. Many of the dishes were dry and almost inedible. We were told that the kitchen was having trouble with an "Agency Chef". On the bright side, our waitress was engaging and sympathetic, and other staff were helpful. By way of recompense we were not charged for our wine - of which we drank a generous quantity. And the ambience is good. Hence the two star marking, I shall go again and hope the kitchen is under better control then . visited The Fentiman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 01 Nov 2016

Really lovely, and chilled out pub. Was pretty much packed on a Wednesday which is rare to see, but good pubs in Oval are few and far between so it makes sense. Brilliant bottles of Malbec for under £20 too, will be heading back!

What a great pub in oval. This is perfectly hidden away on the back streets and is such a cosy yet modern pub to hang out in for drinks or food. Love it
