⭑⭑⭑⭑ ’heartfelt & well-crafted’ The Scotsman, EdFringe 2023

⭑⭑⭑⭑ ‘This piece of theatre hangs around under your fingernails long after you’ve left the theatre.’ EdFringe 2023

An American artist moves through the stages of grief by speaking to 5 of her fellow citizens about their personal, regional, historical experiences of loss in an attempt to make meaning of her own.

In this meta-style, verbatim-inspired, socio-political show, PIECES OF US asks the audience if –in a Western, capitalist, individualist, & politically polarised society where profit, consumption & productivity are valued most– would making room for the universal experiences of loss, hardship, & grief in our culture make for a more peaceful, equitable, & compassionate society?

Image description: Jessica sits wearing a white t-shirt, a white, blue & green zip up hoodie, blue jeans, and black sneakers; she looks directly into camera. She is surrounded by objects. In the left of the image there is a stool covered with a red plaid shirt, a steel bucket, a coal-miner’s lamp wrapped with a red bandana. To the right there is a stool covered with a purple silk scarf, a white knitted jersey, a glass rose, vase, and perfume bottle and some old books. In the back of the image is a red suitcase with a blazer hanging over the handles and a tequila bottle and tumbler sitting on top of it. At Jessica’s feet there is a cream coloured purse to the right and a broken mug that reads ‘World’s Best Teacher’ filled with pencils & pens, which sits on top of a stack of books, with a grey jersey draped over some of the books.
