'The Blend' by Chivas Regal

Ever wondered about the science of whisky blending, or why certain whiskies are smooth as silk and others deliver quite the fiery kick?

Now’s your chance to find out. Scotch blended whisky specialists, Chivas Regal are giving guests a unique opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of Scotch and learn about the highly skilled process of making Chivas Regal blended Scotch whisky during their whisky blending workshop.

Global interest in Scotch whisky has never been higher. This is illustrated by the fact that Scotch whisky exports hit a record high last year, with bottles of the stuff making their way to drinking cabinets everywhere from Spain to Singapore, from France to the Florida coast.

Chivas know a thing or two about Scotch whisky, and have been practicing the art of blending since James Chivas first started experimenting with some of the aged Scotch laid out in the cellar of his Aberdeen grocery store in the mid-19th century.

Led by their knowledgeable tutor, guests will first learn about the different processes that go into making grain whisky and single malts and the role each of these liquids, and their respective flavour profiles, play in the art of whisky blending.

Tutorial over and the basics of Scotch whisky blending absorbed, guests will have the chance to get hands-on, as they are challenged to apply their newly-acquired knowledge to making their very own unique whisky blend – which they will be able to take home and enjoy.

FORMAT

Arrival – Guests will be welcomed through the doors of our liquor store, before being led upstairs to our West Wing for your blended Scotch whisky masterclass. If you arrive with time to spare, why not check out what we’ve got resting on the shelves?

The learning bit – Once everyone’s found their stations, attendees will be guided through the fascinating art of master blending – learning about the distinctions between grain and single malts, their different flavour profiles, and the different processes that go into producing them. Attendees will then nose and taste 5 whiskies with a wide variety of aromas, textures, and flavours.

The hands-on bit – Guests will then be tasked to put their new-found knowledge to the test as their tutor challenges them to blend their very own whisky using the liquids previously tasted and profiled, attempting to recreate the balancing act played by most master blenders.

Afters – Afterwards, guests will be able to take their unique whisky blend home with them to enjoy at their leisure. Attendees are encouraged to explore the rest of our multi-faceted venue, and can choose to head downstairs and browse our shop’s wares, or head further down into our clandestine Cellar Bar to sample our extensive cocktail menu. Reservations recommended, although not mandatory.
