Carwash exploded onto the London club scene in 1989, bringing with it a riot of colour, sequins and sassy sex appeal. Opening its doors for the first time at Koko, formerly the Camden Palace, it was the first club to pioneer a contemporary disco funk revolution. Running weekly every Saturday night, it went on to establish long running residencies in Paris, Ibiza, Vienna, Marseille, St. Tropez amongst other destinations. At one stage over 100,000 party revellers annually come through its London doors alone.
Now a long standing presence at Club Aquarium in the heart of Shoreditch, Carwash fuses the essence of disco culture with infectious music, outlandish costumes and spontaneous dips in the notorious pool and Jacuzzi. With an extensive refurbishment underway, the club will be transformed with plush VIP booths and a new team of pleasure patrol hostesses to take care of all your aural pleasures.
Added entertainment will be on hand for a hedonistic mix of fabulous unicorn dancers, live bongo drummers, roaming disco dolly face painters from Squiggles and Wiggles, and a spectacular finale performance show. Charlie Angel, the director of Carwash, will be “digging deeper into our box of tricks to present an unforgettable night and set a kaleidoscope of colourful people alight in a disco frenzy!”

By harking back to the essence of disco culture, its decadence and outrageous hedonism, all corners have been catered for, whether it’s the outlandish costumes, the infectious music, or the unmistakable lure of the notorious pool area.The famed Carwash crew, flawlessly attired no doubt and getting their funk on in style, are all going to be present for this milestone event. The dress code is simple – Dress the Funk Up! Mix the decades to create your own style with vintage finds and high street bargains, or rock on down to Camden Town and visit Escapade's three floor fancy dress superstore to be dressed from top to toe as a disco diva or super fly guy. Hugh Hefner has been quoted as saying the “golden days of disco decadence are back” and Carwash are proving that fashions may come and go but decadence never goes out of style.
Music
Carwash will celebrate its milestone birthday with an updated music policy, mixing solid gold disco classics with 1980s hands in the air anthems for the ultimate feel good factor. Handpicked to play extra special sets on the night will be four DJs, Miss Jo Lively, Calvin DeKlein and Disco Kidd as in-house residents since 1994, joined by newest glamour puss recruit Annie O hot tailing it over from Berlin. Expect fur to fly and whiskers to get singed as they compete back to back in raising temperatures, with tracks ranging from H.A.P.P.Y by Edwin Star all the way through to Ghostbusters Theme (Mikro Housebrothers V.I.P Mix). RETRO disco, pop, funk, soul and 80s anthems plus many modern infusions, anything that inspires the boogie. Classic trax of yesteryear and the club music of today that has retained the disco blue print so prevalent back in the day.
