The British Library

The national library of the UK with over 170 million items on its shelves, The British Library is a popular choice for remote workers. Their spacious reading rooms are free to use, you just need to sign up for a reader pass in advance, and they're open from 9.30am to 8pm, or 5.30pm on Fridays.

There are 11 different study and working areas, complete with power outlets and free Wi-Fi. There's a strict policy of no talking on the phone and no food or drink, so it's ideal if you're looking to get some work done in peace and quiet.

Riding House Cafe

Located in Fitzrovia, the Riding House Cafe is a retro, artistic venue that's decked out in ornate interiors. Think comfy sofas and armchairs for a casual working environment, as well as more traditional tables and chairs if you prefer the desk vibe. It's open from 8am right through to the evening, and you'll find it a more relaxed space during the day.

A quiet spot for studying and working alike, the Reuben Library can be found within the iconic BFI South Bank. This is perfect for those days when you've got a lot to do, and there's a huge array of film-related material to explore on your breaks.

Their reading room is free to use, featuring free Wi-Fi and power outlets. However, it's worth noting that bags larger than 30cm by 24cm must be stored in a locker.

Peckham Levels

The community-focused destination is a hub of creative individuals, ideal for co-working. And while you're at it, munch on tasty street food from vendors like Little Baobab, The Grub Club or Masta's.

A hotspot of community and creativity in the Brixton area, Canova Hall sits on the site of what used to be the worker’s hall of Britain’s first department store Le Bon Marché. Their food menu is impeccable, with an authentic wood oven imported from Italy and a wide variety of pizza or pasta to choose from.

There's a huge amount of room to work in, open from 8am on weekdays. You can purchase a hot desk pass at £10 for the day, or £50 for a month, which entitles you to bottomless coffee and use of their fast Wi-Fi. The Standard Library Lounge

Their first location outside the USA, The Standard in King's Cross is an elegant hotel that flaunts historic architecture and a bar and restaurant on-site. This was also once the home of the Camden Council Library, and this space has now been transformed into a cosy, modern library lounge.

It's open from 7am right through to midnight, though there's a no laptops after 6pm policy in place. Sip fresh coffee while you work, alongside tasty, affordable snacks like grilled chicken wraps, truffle chips or nduja flatbreads.

An abandoned warehouse in the heart of Camden, the Camden Collective is a community initiative that offers four floors of work space for creative start-ups - including hot-desking, meeting rooms, event areas and even individual lockable offices for companies.

Anyone can apply for a spot here, which comes with 24/7 access, fast Wi-Fi, lockers and more - you just need to become a member as a group or an individual.

Where To Work Remotely In East London

One Hundred Shoreditch

This sleek, independent hotel can be found on Shoreditch High Street, home to the sultry basement bar Seed Library and stunning rooftop restaurant Kaso. But you wouldn't know about those from stepping into the lobby at One Hundred Shoreditch, which feels like a chic office space that's ideal for remote workers.

The individual tables are equipped with power points, and there's a long communal table in the centre. What's more, there's a great coffee shop next door to keep you fuelled.

Another brilliant hotel bar in Shoreditch, The Hoxton's Great Eastern Street outpost is the group's original venue. There are several cosy rooms to work in here, offering some much needed peace and quiet, and after work you can head up to their rooftop bar Llama Inn for a couple of drinks.

They've also got hotels in Holborn, Shepherd's Bush and Southwark - the latter even comes with an official co-working space that has over 700 desks, you just need to get a membership to use this one.

V&A Cafe

One of the most impressive buildings in the whole country, the Victoria and Albert museum is located in South Kensington. You may think of this place as a bustling tourist attraction, but their huge cafe is actually a great choice for remote working, with plenty of tables to choose from.
