Description

You can find the Worship Street Whistling Shop close to Old Street, in the heart of Shoreditch. Infusing the charm of Victorian slums with the elegance of grand Gin palaces, this atmospheric bar, emporium and dram shop exhibits its own very unique approach to the art of creating cocktails.

Think of it as a fairground ride of cocktail inhibition and a charismatic experience of drinking in a new wave of speak easy bars in London. But there's more to the Whistling Shop that just great cocktails - the craft beers and sparkling wine packs a hefty punch of its own, and there's two private experience rooms and some delectable food that needs polishing off.

The venue offers up a fantastic Dram Shop for bookings of up to 8 people, where you get your own little shop to drink in and a cupboard packed full of bottles of cocktails for you to sample. You pay your tab at the end which is a refreshing approach to drinking in London and contributes to the charm of this unique East London venue. The Whistling Shop has revellers all over the capital talking, we'd heartily recommend heading over and checking out what the fuss is about for yourself.

I celebrated my birthday at the Whistling shop and my friends and I had a fantastic time! The cocktails were delicious, the bar staff was really friendly and gave us great recommendations about which drinks to try. I will definitely come back! visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 11 Nov 2017

I love a well crafted cocktail but these guys try too hard. The drinks menu is a literal adventure book. Honestly, I don't need a backstory for every cocktail, just tell me what's in it. Stick with the drinks you know. Tip: get the cheese plate. It is amazing. visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 13 Nov 2017

Not my first time at WSWS and not my last. Occasionally the cocktails are a bit "out there" and a bit of a miss, but 90% of the time they nail it. Bar staff are very knowledgeable and will help you choose drinks that match your palette. visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 13 Nov 2017

Bring the old circular menu back! Don't want to feel like I'm reading a book when ordering a drink. There's too much going on with the new menu. Drink selection on old menu was better too, found the new options (from what I tried) a bit hit and miss. Ian visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 28 Oct 2017

We arrived 30 minutes late for our booking and the staff still managed to find us a table and were very courteous and helpful. The place itself is really comfortable- not too loud music, not too crowded with a relaxed atmosphere. Plus, the cocktails are brilliant. It was a lovely evening. The staff were friendly and attentive. Great venue too. I had initial concerns because of the pedantic booking rules and a fear of being kicked off the table after 2 hours. very cool place - great decor and friendly staff. The cocktail list is definitely geared towards the cocktail purist (no #basics here!) The staff are great at explaining the menu as the ingredient list is very exotic and complex, but the cocktails are not for the faint hearted....(read: very very strong!) Great ambience though - and if you like gin there's plenty to keep you entertained! I think that's what I'll be sticking to next time! Georgia visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 06 Oct 2017

The service was really great and friendly, the place itself was alright, but unfortunately the cocktails themselves were extremely disappointing and absolutely tasteless (even though they were priced at more than £10 each). I might have been extremely unlucky or picked the wrong cocktails, but I've rarely been that disappointed at a cocktail bar. visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 09 Sep 2017

Great venue - super cosy and cute, dimmed lights, perfect for intimate evenings. Bar staff also very nice. Cocktails however, for me personally were not fantastic. I tried three "sweet" ones, none of which were sweet, they were all very strong and all very tiny (for £9.50 a cocktail I'd normally expect a slightly larger glass). visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 10 May 2017

Lovely quirky venue. I'd booked for myself and my boyfriend and we were given a great little 'room' of our own. Good, friendly service - recommended drinks for our preferences and they even removed a drink from our bill because it wasn't to our taste and we didn't drink it all. Would definitely recommend for cosy date night drinks or a group of friends. elf1 visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 12 May 2017

Masterfully crafted drinks, relaxed location, happy people. The drinks are quite affordable and definitely woth it. Like in almost every good bar you get your water on the side but here you don't get any bar snacks for free. I can especially recommend the "Cafe no se", a drink in two parts. The first part, Rum-based with chili, is very spicy and the second part, that tasted like milk with cinnamon and maybe a drop of honey, calms your mouth after every sip. Sensational. It is my 6th favourite bar in London (after Artesian, Connaught, Gông, Nightjar and Oriole). Samuel visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 22 Apr 2017

The cocktails were amazing and service attentive. The only reason for not giving 5 stars was the music was so loud it was almost impossible to talk and the air conditioning was too high so it was really cold. This meant it wasn't the most comfortable environment to catch up with friends, which was a shame, because the cocktails were so good. visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 17 Mar 2017

Drinks were good. The service was ok up until it came to Payment. We were given a bill which included a charge for a band that we didn't ask for. We had to ask for it to be removed and if we hadn't checked the bill properly then we may have accidentally paid it. When we asked for a deposit refund, the whole process took 10mins, after which another bar staff member told us we under paid. In fact the band charge had been added back! As a matter of principle, one should always ask customers if they would like to make optional payments, not just assume they will. visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 09 Feb 2017

Booked last minute birthday drinks on Saturday. Half the bar is seated and perfect for a romantic eve/date. The other half is a more lively with lots of seating and standing, perfect for groups or pre drinks to your night out. We had a great table at the back which easily sat 12-16 people. Cocktail menu is very creative and a little daunting but delicious. Bar men were really friendly and happy to make recommendations. They also serve wine, beers and usual spirits if you are not feeling cocktails. We were only planning on staying for 2 hours but ended up staying for 5!! it did empty out at about midnight so if you fancy dancing or meeting other people i would make plans to move onto somewhere else, If you just want to catch up with friends, this is a great place. We had a brilliant night! visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 28 Jan 2017

Great underground cocktail spot - been there three times, they have a smart innovative menu but specialise in gin and make very good classics too (Sazerac and Corpse Reviver #2 both excellent). And great pork scratchings! Even a Thursday night in January was crowded with a good buzz. Great place to visit good drinks, nice music perfect if you need a to have a chat. The only issue was at the door the security guy was telling us that we have to book a table and that they can't accommodate 7 people without a table. because is very small and busy.... on Saturday. So in the beginning he didn't wanted to let us in.. but at the end he said oh actually we have a table.... and the funny thing was that the place was almost empty with full of tables.. So wasn't nice start but everything else was lovely.

Tried four different cocktails. One of them was very nice, the other three were okay. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Perhaps it's because the place is fairly new, but the decor needs working on and polishing up, especially the ceilings and some of the walls. The seats we were given were directly next to the toilets. Not great. The taps in the toilets were loose as well. The music was good. Overall, nice experience but there are one or two better cocktail bars in the area. visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 02 Dec 2016

The drinks, setting and music was really lovely. Our initial waitress was very nice as well, she explained everything for us and made recommendations based on our individual tastes. Unfortunately we did have to complain, as there was a nail sticking out of a wall in the ladies bathroom, which my friend caught her top on and it ripped it. She told one of the staff who said they would inform the manager. No one else came over to us and after about 30 minutes one of us needed the bathroom. We then saw that they had put a cork over it, but not even bothered to come over to apologise to her. This obviously resulted in a complaint to the manager, who at first offered 20% off our bill which was £100. Her top cost £50 so £20 wasn't exactly fair. After some further 'talks' they agreed to us paying half the bill. The manger was extremely apologetic after this, but by then it was a little to late. visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 26 Nov 2016

I'll start with the bad bits: Drinks are very expensive. The guy behind the bar was not very friendly and a bit curt - I think he was having an off day. On to the god bits: Our table waiters were brilliant though! Really nice and very attentive. and the venue itself is fab, full of little hidden gems and tucked away corners. Perfect if you want something a bit different and to wow your guests. The Victorian cocktails were really fun and interesting. They take a while to concoct so I'd recommend ordering a beer or wine while the cocktail is made. I'd definitely go back - in fact I've booked to take my sisters there! visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 22 Nov 2016

Great service. Really helpful when trying to choose from a wide range of cocktails. Good date atmosphere on a Wednesday. Will be returning! visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 02 Nov 2016

Good weird drinks, surprisingly reasonable prices, great ambiance, nice live music. The only thing I would change is that maybe the drinks are a little too wacky and the menu is a zodiac calendar thing you have to spin around like an idiot to figure out what nonsense thing you want to order. They're trying a little too hard there. visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 02 Nov 2016

Drinks were great & quirky, but unfortunately the service was not only very slow (was 40mins from arrival before I got my drink), but also drinks were forgotten at times by the staff. Shame, as a great venue. visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 25 Oct 2016

We hired out Whistling Shop exclusively for a press event on 20th October, and were really delighted with the venue, and how helpful the staff were. There is scope to dress up the space as you wish (for instance we brought in our own lighting) and the managers were really flexible, opening the bar early so that we could set up. Fantastic cocktails, very creative and unique menu. visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 20 Oct 2016

Not as good as it used to be. Cocktails were weird and the bartenders were not as knowledgable as the old ones. The best drink - the peanut butter and jam one - is no longer on the menu. Hailey visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 11 Oct 2016

We had a very nice time, the atmosphere is really cool, the music as well. We were 3 and though 3 different cocktails. Mine was good, but we didn't really enjoy the 2 other. The cheese board is really good, and it was enought for 2 people. We will come again but more for the place and atmosphere than the cocktails Maureen visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 07 Oct 2016

This little spot is just what the Dr ordered for after dinner drinks. They do an insanely good Old Fashioned and the atmosphere is really great. It's a bit like an old 1920s speak easy met a Hawaiian hula girl with a Caribbean rum runner and they got together... Really accommodating and friendly staff and will certainly be back. Really quirky and good quality. Plus the value is great too. Can't really fault it Andy visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 05 Sep 2016

We were looked after really well at this fab bar. The cocktails had to be explained to us as they are weird and wonderful concoctions, but all really tasty. Gigglemugs went down especially well. All the staff were great, helpful and knowledgeable - even the girl that had just started ! Great atmosphere, would definitely recommend it to anyone. hubjo visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 27 Feb 2016

The cocktails were decent and great atmosphere. The service was average - ordered a drink whilst waiting for my friend to arrive which never came, and thereafter had to go up to the bar to order more drinks as was ignored when trying to get attention. It was a busy Friday night though but I think when you need to book a table a week in advance you should get looked after better - with other cocktail bars in the area the staff give you advice and a bit of story behind their cocktails, which I think is part of the experience - didn't get any of that here except from the barman when I had to go up to order and because I asked. It really wasn't a great night out. We waited 15+ mins to have our order taken, eventually going over to bar to get somebody to serve us (there is no bar service btw so you just have to wait for somebody) . We than had to wait another 15+ mins for the drinks. It was not very busy either so the wait was confusing. The waitress then gave us a lot of attitude and when we expressed disdain at her attitude she would not stop standing there saying "sorry" over and over again - and all we wanted was our now 30 min overdue drinks. The bar itself is really nice looking BUT the ONE toilet was disgusting! Toilet paper on the floor, overflowing bin. Would we go back - absolutely NO. Would we recommend - not unless you want a very frustrating night! user visited Worship Street Whistling Shop on 02 Oct 2015

This was a fantastic find for a date. Very cosy venue. The staff were accommodating and the bartender came over to our sofa and talked us through his recommendations to suit our tastes. The food was tasty as well. We'll definitely be visiting again!

I love this place! Great for date night and cosying up on a sofa with a refreshing cocktail. The bartenders could have been a little more experimental but all good.

Not sure I've ever experienced anything quite like this one. Dimly lit and atmospheric, there's a table service policy which is at odds with your typical Shoreditch vibe. It's good for a few cocktails but quite pricey!

Awful!! I've just spent £276 at this place (rip off!) but was refused a final drink on the grounds that one of the girls in my group had momentarily fallen asleep!! I explaned she'd just finished a 50 hour wèek (+ obviously had had a few drinks)! We were not causing any trouble or being loud, just a few friends enjoying the gins etc they had on offer . All the other guy in my group (2 guys, 3 women) & I wanted was a final beer for the road, (I wasn't asking for a drink for my female friends). Spoke to the manager & explained that at my age I didnt appreciate being spoken to like a child & told by someone probably more then half my age that I couldn't have a drink because one of my party had fallen asleep for a moment, espescially after I'd just spent £276! We will never go back to this place! Also beware of drink costs here, what we had would have cost half the price elsewhere!

Really nice place. Great atmosphere, perfect for a date with a good setting and a perfect noise level. Staff are friendly and the bar staff clearly love what they do. Downside is the cocktail menu; a few more classics would be useful. And it was a bit tough to get attention to order drinks. A few more substantial snacks would be great. I recommend it; my suggestions are only minor.

We had a good night at Worship Street Whistling shop. It's not quite up there with the likes of Nightjar - The cocktail list is fairly limited, but the staff were very helpful and were happy to go off menu and make other suggestions.

Had a great night, perfect noise level to give some atmosphere but I could still hear everyone else on my table of six. Great decor and the wine I had was delicious. I know they bill themselves as a 'cocktail bar' but I actually found the ones I had a little disappointing - too strange and not tasty enough. Would still go back though!

Great staff, very friendly and knowledgeable, I was a little suprised by the number of times we were asked "are you sure" it would seem they have had a little bit of problem with people not understanding the drinks :) Menu has changed and I still do not really like it, could we go back to the old menu please? Otherwise wonderful night!

I surprised my new beau by taking him here as he'd always wanted to go to a speakeasy! didn't fail to impress! Brilliant platters and drinks!! great service too; the waiter really seemed to know what he was talking about! The vibe was so relaxing and not too busy so that we could really soak it up! Great!!

Excellent night with brilliant staff! Very knowledgable and polite. It was a shame to have a time limit on how long you could stay, and bare in mind if you are in a big group to prepare a good plan to split the bill at the end of night. You'll enjoy yourself too much that it will rack up.

Attended a great party night out last weekend with around 25 others. The venue ambience, staff and selection available were fantastic! There are cheaper cocktails available elsewhere however these are worth the extra (£10-12 each). The cocktail menu was a little confusing with the stylish booklet and tear-off stubs (the previous more familiar A4 menu was easier to understand and also to read in the dim light). Will be back!

Bar, staff and drinks are all amazing. We went on the first Friday night in September and it was fairly quiet, which was a nice change for London. Prices are fairly standard for a cocktail bar in London, but everything we tried was delicious. My only gripe would be the gimmicky menu they hand out which resembles a raffle ticket book including perforated sections that encourages people to tear them out, which they have in some cases. Do yourself a favour and download the PDF menu from their website to your phone for convenience. If however, you don't manage to, the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about their drinks, so don't be afraid to ask for recommendations.

We had a lovely evening. The staff were great, the music was brilliant and the drinks were delicious. The only thing I would change is that the prices of the sprits, gin, whiskey etc. was not on the menu. This was a bit off-putting and I ordered less for fear of what would appear on the bill.

Had the Champagne fizz thing, with the Absinth tablet, made the Champagne overflow and made it taste like sodium bicarbonate. Felt a little ill after that drink. The place was really nice, but there were a few rowdy tables which kept cheering and shouting which ruined the atmosphere.

Really fun enviornment. A bit quiet but I think that's because it was the Thursday night before the Bank Holiday. I can not wait to go there again. Although the gin and three tonics were not for me.

Pretty impressive. A few different people had recommended this place. It's pretty quirky and well thought out. I'm not sure I'd go back, not because I didn't enjoy it, just because it's more about the 'experience' - but definitely worth heading to at least once. Pricey but the cocktails were gorgeous, as expected.

amazing little place. I say little, but once you've seen their restaurant /emporium area you will get a good grasp of how big this place actually is. Quirky menu, with the feel of a pharmacy. Very well preserved style, with a mixture of Victorian and Prohibition touches. Shame the book wall isn't real... A bit on the pricey side however beverages are of superb quality
