Permanent designs have marked the skin of humans for thousands of years. Found across all cultures, tattoos have represented many meanings, from protective amulets and sacred rituals, to rites of passage and decorative ornamentations. Today, the ability to transform a person’s skin from unmarked to adorned is empowered by the hand of the tattoo artist. SHAPESHIFTERS is a group exhibition exploring the ability to transform one’s physical appearance at will in folklore and through the art of tattooing.
An opening party to celebrate the launch of the exhibition will be held on Wednesday 12th July with a free glass of Devil’s Botany Absinthe to the first 100 guests. Private view from 7PM-9PM. Admission is free, but RSVP is required. The bar will remain open until 11PM.
SHAPESHIFTERS is curated by Allison Crawbuck, Director of The Last Tuesday Society. The opening party held on 12th July is sponsored by Devil’s Botany.
