Are you wanting to make your Christmas cards a little more special and personal this year? Come along to Barge East and make your own in this one-off lino printing workshop with artist Dan Whiteson

Lino printing is a wonderfully accessible and expressive process, in which you draw and then carve a design into a piece of lino. You then apply ink to your block and transfer the design onto your card by pressing and rolling. You will have the opportunity in this workshop to print your design multiple times, so you can create a little series of cards to send to friends and family.

Everything you need to create your printed cards will be provided, and there will be demonstrations and one-to-one guidance, so no previous experience is necessary. Whilst you are encouraged to bring your own creative ideas to your design, there will be plenty of support and inspiration from Dan on the night, so don't worry if you can't think of anything. Do bear in mind that you will only have about an hour and a half to draw up and carve your design, so it's best to go for images rather than text.

Do also be aware that lino printing is super fun, but has the potential to get a bit messy. Please don't wear anything too fancy including shoes to avoid any upsetting mishaps. Please arrive at least 5-10 minutes in advance of the start time to ensure you are present for the demonstration.

  • A word from the chef:

At Barge East, every dish tells a story of the seasons, the soil, and the passionate team behind it all. Our menu is rooted in sustainability and driven by flavour, shaped by what’s growing in our riverside gardens and sourced thoughtfully from local farmers, butchers, and fishmongers who share our values. We cook with purpose. That means using every part of the produce where possible, keeping waste to a minimum, and letting the natural character of each ingredient shine. From homegrown herbs to foraged garnishes, and beer brewed with our own hops, we aim to create food that’s exciting, nourishing, and respectful of the planet. Thank you for dining with us aboard this historic barge, we hope you enjoy eating this food as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it. Bon appétit!
