Often referred to as 'Jackson Pollock's Wife' throughout her life, Lee Krasner is now recognised as not just one of the foremost abstract expressionist painters; but of the 20th Century. Her large scale gestural paintings are shot through with such tremendous sensitivity & raw emotion it is an almost spiritual experience standing in front of her work.
One of the processes she returned to at various points in her career was the use of collage to repurpose old or 'failed' paintings into new, vibrant abstract compositions. In this workshop we'll attempt to replicate this joyful & cathartic process by creating a number of improvised, expressive paintings inspired by music that will be torn, sliced, cut & then glued back together to make a final composition.
All necessary materials will be provided, though you are welcome to bring your own paints/surfaces should you prefer. This is a fully tutored class so no previous experience is required.
Please note the class will be taking place in the beautiful rooftop space at Barge East. There will be a tent overhead, but we will be essentially painting outside, so do dress appropriately! We'll be using acrylic paints, which are water based and wash out of clothing, but I would recommend not getting too dressed up, or to bring an apron/change of clothes if you're worried about mess.
Unfortunately the venue is up a set of stairs, with no alternative access. Please message me directly if you have any concerns.
