Take a trip back to the 1940's, step into our East London pop-up Jazz Club, and enjoy a fantastic evening with by Neville Malcolm & Friends featuring award-winning, virtuoso guest vocalist Cleveland Watkiss.
The band features some of London's most experienced musicians including: Will Wood (Tenor Saxophone), Sean Hargreaves (Keyboards), Winston Clifford (Drums) and Neville Malcolm (Bass)
Cleveland Watkiss was the winner of the London Jazz Awards for Best Vocalist in 2010 and was voted Wire/Guardian Jazz Awards best vocalist for three consecutive years. He was one of the co-founders of the vastly influential Jazz Warriors big band, and in 2017 he won the Parliamentary Award for Jazz Vocalist of the year.
"Cleveland is such a restlessly curious and versatile musician. He has performed with artists such as Stevie Winder, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Who, Bob Dylan, Art Blakey, Courtney Pine and Keith Richards to name a few. He has appeared in straight-ahead jazz contexts and collaborated with established drum and bass acts too. A truly remarkable talent." - Ivan Hewett, The Telegraph
The band will be bringing their repertoire of straight-ahead classics with latin, reggae and bossa nova grooves.
Enjoy two live sets from the band, with live artworks from Jonathan Ellis who will be painting each band member throughout the night. As usual DJ Jazzie Geoffrie will be setting the tone and filling the breaks.
