POETRY:

Amina Jama is a young British-Somali poet based in London. She wants to make her audience her audience challenge what they think they know about poetry and make them fall in love with words. She describes her work as brave and humble with a warm intimacy both on stage and on the page. Amina is part of several London collective performing across the city.

Toby Thompson is an 18-year-old boy beating his path to manhood; his poetry is an attempt at communicating that journey. His writing style is born of a love affair he once had with Hip-Hop, they’re still good friends but he shies away from the term rapper. In his spare time Toby is a closet pianist, his future is as musical as it is poetic.

Toby has been commissioned to write and perform for the Royal Shakespeare Company a number of times, showing his work at the Swan in Stratford, the House Of Lords and Camden Roundhouse. Festival appearances include Camp Bestival, Boom Town, Camden Crawl, Edinburgh Fringe, Cheltenham Literary Festival and Shambala. In 2011 Toby was crowned the Glastonbury Poetry Slam Champ.

Yomi Sode was born in Oyo State Nigeria, but grew up in London around music. Around the age of 9, Yomi found himself as the unintentional story teller. Writing stories without actually realising the potential of the pen. It wasn’t long before he noticed that singers and songwriters were story tellers too. This prompted him to stretch his musical ear and surprisingly he was able to identify with a broad spectrum of sounds and genres.

Under the moniker GREEdS, Yomi began sharing these, as a Poet/rapper/MC at public events, with his earliest experience of hosting and performing at talent showcases. Through his time as a Spoken Word artist, Yomi has been able to experiment with the music he was initially exposed to as a young person. His aim is to “bring a new sound to performance poetry and profile the art form to those who are not aware”.

Yomi currently has two releases (Volume in Silence & READY EP) both available online and can be purchased via his website. Yomi has also performed in numerous places, namely: Jazz Café, Cargo, OneTaste, Proud (Camden), Ronnie Scotts to name a few, and was also long listed for MTV unsigned 2012.
