We are Northern Quarter Records, Manchester's newest independent record label. After a successful start to 2017, we are bringing our 2016/17 roster into the capital to celebrate the upcoming launch of our 5 acts’ debut releases through Northern Quarter Records.

Wanderlust

Wanderlust is a Manchester based pop rock band, founded by the creative talents of front woman Eirhanna and lead guitarist Benjie. The pair’s contrasting influences create a fresh new sound, amalgamating the prog rock feel of Pink Floyd and the powerfull pop lyricism and melodic writing of Sia. Accompanied by a further 6 talented musicians, Wanderlust achieve a sound not to beunderestimated or forgotten. The hypnotic soundscapes, soaring vocals and powerful choruses oftheir 2016 debut EP ‘Infinite Skies’ captured the ears of an enthusiastic audience, who are eagerly awaiting the release of the next release in late Spring.

KohL

Kohl combines the classic folk storytelling of her first musical love, Bob Dylan, with a more recent fascination with the minimalist and evocative electronic soundscapes of artists such as James Blake and The XX.

Artizans

Guitar-driven rock trio Artizans describe themselves as being all about huge riffs, sweaty shows and big vibes. The band first entered the music scene in 2012 as a 5-piece, playing shows in and around their South Yorkshire base where they soon graduated to play at some of the area’s most prestigious venues. In 2015 the ambitious group collectively made the move to Manchester in order to continue
that growth, constantly developing their sound and audience in an inspiring new environment.

Artizans’ current line up allows them to create a punchy and powerful sound without being oppressive. With each member of the three piece having studied at music colleges in Manchester, Artizans take heed of their in depth musical knowledge and skill but do not allow it to stand in the way of their unapologetic and energetic sound and remain as true to their rock roots as ever.

Steal

In early 2014, frontman Freddie Eggleton brought together a trio of musicians to perform his predominately soul-based music. As this group began to write together, the direction started to push towards a broader palette of sounds more akin to the likes of Jeff Buckley. A pivotal moment was the addition of a second guitarist contributing additional textural depth, and Steal as it exists today was born. The band’s debut release ‘Waiting Game’ set the tone for what was to come next.

In late 2015, Steal began working with composer and producer Mauricio Pauly, who inspired the band to reconstruct existing material, guiding them to explore a multitude of genres in their writing and encouraging them to push their creative boundaries. The result was an eponymous EP released in 2016, featuring lead single ‘Do You Even Want It’. Steal continue to write within this soundscape, working on brand new material set to be released in 2017.

Flightless Birds

Instrumental three-piece Flightless Birds was conceived amidst Manchester’s thriving and varied music scene. After having met and collaborated in various projects as students, the trio were quick to realise how congruent their ideas and influences were and started work on their original music. Only a year on, Flightless Birds have developed a sound unlike any other modern fusion bandcurrently on the scene. Constantly fighting against the boundaries of instrumental music, their music brilliantly reflects the individual personalities of each member as well as their collective dynamic; masterfully and maturely perfected by young minds who are not afraid to be innovative.
