A monthly festival of funk and soul with some of the strongest UK bands & DJs on the scene.

Co-Headlining this very popular monthly night are The Haggis Horns and Crowd Company, who also host. Not only will they be each playing a set they will also collaborate on a special “superjam” finale.

Flying in from Milan, DJ Calamity Jade (WillWork4Funk) will be spinning funk & soul 45s throughout the night. And, to open the night, more live music from the talented newcomers Gracie.

THE HAGGIS HORNS

The Haggis Horns have been at the forefront of the UK funk scene since they drew attention as a horn section on the legendary album “Keb Darge Presents The New Mastersounds. They went on to form their own full band in 2004 and have three highly acclaimed funk fuelled albums under their belt, “Hot Damn! , “Keep On Movin” (First Word Records) and recently released “What Comes To Mind” (Haggis Records) . They have been rocking crowds the world over for years winning fans with their distinctive northern funk sound combining ass-shaking break-beats, afrobeat, soul and hip-hop.

Members of Haggis Horns have performed with the likes of Jamiroquai, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Corinne Bailey Rae, Mark Ronson, Robbie Williams, Craig Charles’ Fantasy Funk Band to name a few!

CROWD COMPANY

Crowd Company are an 8 piece band with a modern, original take on vintage funk and soul. Brimful of energy with catchy hooks / melodies and tight groove the band combine a retro Hammond organ based sound with a virtuoso horn section, soulful lead and harmony vocals.

Since their latest album release via the Proper Records label the band have received rave reviews and radio airplay across Europe, including being playlisted on the BBC Radio 6 Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show.

They are acclaimed as one of London’s leading bands of the genre and as well as headlining sellout shows at many of London’s leading venues the band recently were asked to open for acclaimed Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings artists Saun & Starr. And before then they opened for New Orleans funk legend George Porter Jr of The Meters on his UK tour, also sharing the stage with him to play some Meters classics.

GRACIE

Formed in Leeds GRACIE explores a spectrum of funk, neo-soul tones, hip hop and jazz, fronted by singer songwriter Grace Convert. Taking a collaborative process of arrangement and drawing from a wide variety of popular genres the group present a unique sound including playful live instrumentation and emotive vocals.

 

DJ CALAMITY JADE (WillWork4Funk) - mixcloud

Hailing from Milan, Italy, DJ Calamity Jade is a leading DJ on the European funk scene. She is a DJ, Radio Host and manager of WIllWork4Funk promotion agency.

From spinning in leading clubs of Italy's funk/soul circuit, to guesting in club nights abroad (in Hamburg, Bonn, Cologne and Frankfurt in Germany, Geneva and Lausanne in Switzerland, Eygalières and Chambery in France), or opening/closing for acts such as The New Mastersounds (UK), The Mighty Mocambos (DE), Myles Sanko (UK), and more, Calamity Jade has been incessantly bringing her bags of vinyl goodness to the most discerning ears and funky dancefloors.

In 2012 Jade founded music promotion agency Willwork4funk, specialized in funk, soul, jazz, afro & breaks, through which she has collaborated with a variety of labels such as Légère, Mocambo, HopeStreet, Wah Wah 45s, Agogo, Breakin Bread or Jalapeno and worked with artists like Myles Sanko, The New Mastersounds, The Mighty Mocambos, Smoove, The Impellers and Bahama Soul Club, just to name a few.

Since 2013 Jade hosts radio show "Funk Shui" on Radio Popolare and Controradio, which focuses on contemporary funk & soul and regularly features unreleased sneak peaks and world exclusives.

2. Tickets are issued subject to the rules and regulations of the venue.
3. Please check your tickets, as mistakes cannot always be rectified.
4. Occasionally, events are cancelled or postponed by the promoter, team, performer or venue for a variety of reasons. If the event is cancelled, please contact us for information on receiving a refund from the responsible party. If the event was moved or rescheduled, the venue or promoter may set refund limitations. It is your responsibility to ascertain the date and time of any rearranged event.
5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.
