A monthly festival of funk and soul with some of the strongest UK bands & DJs on the scene.

Co-Headlining this very popular monthly night are The Impellers and Crowd Company, who also host. Not only will they be each playing a set they will also collaborate on a special “superjam” finale.

One of the capital’s most in demand DJs, Healer Selecta, will be spinning funk & soul 45s throughout the night. And, to open the night, more live music from the highly-acclaimed Honeyshotz.

THE IMPELLERS

The Impellers are a 12-piece powerhouse from Brighton, bringing together influences including soul, deep funk, latin, afrobeat, and hip hop production, with pounding instrumentals and lyrically strong vocal tracks. The band’s first full album “Robot Legs” was released on UK independent label Freestyle Records in 2009 and featured a guest appearance from DJ and latin percussion legend Snowboy. May 2014 saw the release of their third album, entitled “My Certainty”, which firmly confirmed The Impellers as one of the strongest funk outfits of the planet.

The Impellers have been busy touring across the UK, Netherlands, Spain, France and elsewhere. They've shared stages with some of the finest funk, soul, hip-hop, jazz and scratch DJ talent from around the world. Their ever-expanding CV includes shows with Marva Whitney, Breakestra, James Taylor Quartet, The Bamboos, Lack of Afro, Kid Koala, Hexstatic, Mr Thing (The Scratch Perverts), DJ Bizznizz (UK DMC Championships winner), DJ Vadim, Speedometer, Polar Bear, Part Time Heroes and The Nextmen. The band also played live sessions on the BBC in the UK and were recruited by renowned DJ and promoter Adrian Gibson to play a live mix of tracks from the seminal “Ultimate Breaks & Beats” records

 

CROWD COMPANY

Original retro funk and soul with a modern twist from eight-piece Crowd Company, one of London’s leading bands of the genre. Brimful of energy, with a raw edge, catchy hooks, and tight grooves, the band have a finely-tuned sound based around retro funk grooves with a soulful edge, a Hammond organ-based sound with a virtuoso horn section, and soulful lead with hook-laden harmonies.

As well as headlining sellout shows at many of London’s leading venues, the band recently were asked to open for acclaimed Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings artists Saun & Starr and they’ve also recently opened for and collaborated with The Meters' George Porter Jr on his UK tour.

HONEYSHOTZ

Led by the bassist from London heavy funksters The Getup and fronted by the soulful vocals of Sabina Challenger, The Honeyshotz are a Funk, Soul and Acid Jazz outfit who, as well as featuring other musicians from The Getup, also include players from The Gene Drayton Unit, The Fantastics, Rhoda Dakar's band and Gizelle Smith's band. With years of experience between them touring, gigging and recording with bands and artists including Sir Joe Quaterman, Reuben Wilson and JTQ, to name a few, expect to hear top quality funk and soul grooves and vibes to get down to.

 

DJ HEALER SELECTA

Healer Selecta (Dustaphonics / Raison D’Etre / Get In The Groove) is one of the UK’s most acclaimed DJs specialising in vintage music. He spins an eclectic selection of rare and classic 45s – funk, soul, rare groove, boogaloo.

2. Tickets are issued subject to the rules and regulations of the venue.
3. Please check your tickets, as mistakes cannot always be rectified.
4. Occasionally, events are cancelled or postponed by the promoter, team, performer or venue for a variety of reasons. If the event is cancelled, please contact us for information on receiving a refund from the responsible party. If the event was moved or rescheduled, the venue or promoter may set refund limitations. It is your responsibility to ascertain the date and time of any rearranged event.
5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.
