True Think is a new band lead by the British keyboard player/pianist/songwriter Robert Mitchell.

Performing the music from their forthcoming album of powerful songs of protest, love and peace, they blend Electronic, Jazz, RnB, Spoken Word, film and folk influences together to create a unique sound.

Composer and pianist Robert Mitchell is a throwback to the powerful tradition of artistic mastery in pursuit of transcendence. Whether performing solo or with his ensemble, his focus is upon the highest ideals of the essence of jazz. He is proud to be a Steinway Artist and a Roland Artist, and in the past has performed with Courtney Pine, the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus, Steve Coleman, Basement Jaxx, Billy Harper, Alicia Olatuja, Omar Puente, Jhelisa Anderson, Julien Lourau, Norma Winstone, Orphy Robinson, Daymé Arocena, Jose James and many more.

Joining Robert (Keys, perc, sampler) on stage will be singer, songwriter & member of the world-renowned Kingdom Choir, Sharlene-Monique on vocals, multi-instrumentalist Zayn Mohammed, multi-genre bassist/keys player Tom Mason, and drummer and percussionist Saleem Raman.

One of the most outstanding pianists performing in the UK today

 Jazz Steps

Mitchell draws influence from many musical styles in his playing; jazz, latin, funk, blues, classical... all components that go towards making the pianist what he is; a truly original virtuoso    Mike Gates, UK Vibe

Over 25 years entrenched in the art of music, Robert has recorded nine albums of his own projects, participated in many as a sideman and has performed in 40 countries. His current priorities include his trio Epiphany 3 with guest dancer Masumi Endo and special guest Julien Lourau, and solo performance - including his fascination with one-handed works, which led to a solo album and the 2013 Leftitude festival he created. A new solo album, recorded live, is on its way. Robert has also published poetry books. His latest collaborations include Julien Lourau’s band Groove Retrievers and the vocalist Alicia Olatuja.

His most recent engagement is as Musical Director for a revival/celebration of the BBC programme Jazz 625 - broadcast live from Cheltenham Jazz Festival. Robert led the house band, featuring special guests incl. Gregory Porter or Joshua Redman and Charlie Watts.

Robert Mitchell has also worked with young Cuban vocalist Daymé Arocena, Soul and West-End star Shaun Escoffery, French sax innovator Stephane Payen, Cuban violinist Omar Puente, South African education, percussion and conflict resolution genius Eugene Skeef, and new free jazz/radical poetry group StaggerLee Wonders as well as Courtney Pine and Orphy Robinson, among others.

Sharlene-Monique is a multi-award-winning singer-songwriter, her debut EP Destiny was released in April 2018 and combines emotive, soulful vocals with inspiring songs of empowerment, love and self-acceptance. It has been streamed over 700,000 times internationally on Spotify including Japan, Taiwan & the Philippines. She’s a member of Sony Music artists The Kingdom Choir who sung at the wedding of the Duke & Duchess of Sussex in 2018.

After starting musical life as a classical violinist, Tom Mason studied jazz bass at the Royal Academy of Music, spending a year of his degree at New England Conservatory in Boston. Since then, he has gone on to work extensively as double bassist and bass guitarist throughout many areas of the music scene.

His deep fascination with the vastness of the musical universe has led Tom to become known for his adeptness in crossing genres. Equally at home performing traditional Argentine tango as he is producing and DJing jungle drum & bass, his career has reached such eclectically far-flung corners as touring with folk-pop legend Donovan, performing in Havana in a duo with Cuban vocalist Daymé Arocena and appearing on BBC’s ‘Later with Jools Holland’ with sitarist Anoushka Shankar.

Tom has been working with Robert Mitchell and performing his works since 2002, gaining a deep insight into his extraordinary talents as composer and improvisor.

Over the years, he has also recorded and performed with an array of artists including Questlove, Lizz Wright, Goldie, Mark Ronson, Ghostpoet, Jamie Cullum, Lily Allen, Angelique Kidjo, Gwilym Simcock, Jonathan Jeremiah and The Heritage Orchestra.

Saleem Raman is a versatile drummer that has played internationally with a range of artists across the globe. His musical taste is as diverse as his credits, from rock icon artists like David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) & Hazel O'Conor to Pop artists like Lilly Allen, Duncan James (Blue) and Suggs to World Music Master Salif Keita & Broken Beat pioneer Kaidi Tatham.

He currently plays with Jazz/Soul vocalist Polly Gibbons, Tango/Parisian Jazz artist Gabrielle Ducomble, Jazz artist Robert Mitchell, Afrobeat/Dub outfit The Fontanelles, Urban Psychedelic Trio Sen3 & UK conscientious rapper LowKey amongst other projects whilst regularly performing in the House Band at Ronnie Scott's in London.

He has recorded, performed or toured with such musicians as Layla Hathaway, Esperanza Spalding, Martin Taylor, Lilly Allen, Nick Mulvey, Natty, Duncan James, Julia Biel and more.

"Zayn shows what guitar is all about, its about invention - he's truly a star!" says one of Zayn Mohammed's influences, George Benson. Zayn is UK based, award-winning multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer & guitarist extraordinaire. Growing up playing Flamenco and jazz from the tender age of 3, he appeared on TV and recorded his first album at the age of 12 before attending and graduating from the renowned Berklee College of Music, where he received his BA degree in jazz performance & was twice recipient of ‘Guitar Achievement Award’. He has received life-long mentorship from jazz-pianist Ahmad Jamal, founder of the 'cool jazz style' & main influenced to Miles Davis amongst many others. Jamal is a big influence on Zayn’s music and artistry. Zayn has also studied with the great jazz saxophonists Wayne Shorter and Joe Lovano, award-winning bassist John Patitucci amongst others, while he was in the United States. He has performed all over the USA at renowned festivals and jazz clubs such as The Blue Note, NYC, opening for artists such as Stanley Clarke of Chick Corea and the great Pat Martino.

In addition to the guitar Zayn plays and teaches a variety of styles such as flamenco, indian classical and turkish classical music.  He plays an array of world instruments such as the Oud, (playing Oud on stage with Grammy-award Winning oud player Simon Shaheen), the Sarod (Indian Plucked Banjo) where he has collaborated on Sarod with award winning producer Nitin Sawhney), the Rebab (Central-Asian spike fiddle & instrument played by Rumi), Bendir (Turkish Frame Drum) & The Ney, (Turkish Reed Flute) to name a few.

In 2016 Zayn was crowned SKY ARTS Guitar Star. He went on to perform the main-stage of Latitude Music Festival in the summer of 2016 and continues to perform in jazz, fusion, and world circuits on the UK scene, blending together the sounds of his background, and passions of his life and heart.
