Introduction to harmonica
The class will get you playing harmonica right away. You will learn basic techniques, how to play some simple tunes, how to play a blues solo and make a sound like a “train”. You need no previous musical experience at all to do this class.
We start with the real basics. How to breath correctly, and how to hold the harmonica. We then move on to playing the “train” . This sounds cool and will get you breathing correctly. It’s then onto playing single notes and playing an easy tune. You will also learn the basic of improvisation and how to make a real bluesy sound on the harmonica. On the way you will learn some of the hidden secrets of playing the harmonica. You will have all the basic skills you need to continue learning this amazing instrument.
Tickets include an indroduction to the harmonica lesson with Joff Watkins plus one free drink.
Please bring along your own harmonica, or alternatively, Joff can provide one on the night for just £10.
Joff watkins
Joff has been playing the harmonica for over thirty years. In that time, he has played thousands of gigs, appeared on the radio, played on t.v. and film soundtracks and played at glastonbury and womad festivals.
Joff has been teaching harmonica for the past twenty years. In that time, he has taught at Morley and Richmond college, taught a huge number of children and introduced hundreds of adults to playing the harmonica through his workshops.
