Scotsman Hotel & Grand Café

You can't enter the Scotsman Hotel & Grand Café and not have your breath taken away with its striking decor. At the core of one of the most famous hotels in the city is a striking chandelier, surrounded by marble pillars and rich, velvet furnishings. Make your way through to the dining space (there's also a fairy-lit courtyard should you fancy sipping alfresco) to get your lips around some refreshing glasses of wine. The main menu serves charcuterie platters and baked Scottish brie which go perfectly with reds and whites, plus there's also a tempting list of cocktails to be drawn in by, such as the Rum & Raisin.

Lady Libertine

When it comes to the Edinburgh city centre wine bars, we've got you sorted with Lady Libertine. Set over two floors, the Art Deco-inspired venue fronts gorgeous distressed walls fixed with framed posters, an emerald green topped bar and a cosy basement area ideal for visiting on a date to enjoy a glass or two. The contemporary wine café on the ground floor is what's captured our hearts though, with large windows overlooking St Andrews Square and a bar menu (think olives and house breads) to make you drool. Expect to find the likes of Cava Brut Reserva and a crisp sauvignon blanc on the tipple list, as well as a tempting orange and many reds.

Dragonfly

Just up from Grassmarket, you'll find one of the oldest cocktail bars in the city situated within what used to be a fire station. It's now a lot more spectacular in appearance, sporting grand chandeliers upon entrance, plush plants and a double-height bar. Among large, floral-encrusted pillars and velvet seating, you can rest assured you'll be in safe hands in the wine department. A carefully considered drinks list includes the likes of regional wines, such as the Vermentino Zagare from Sicily, or the Argentinian La Flor Malbec.

Lunch Offer

This fancy boutique hotel is within proximity to some of the city's top landmarks (trip to Edinburgh Castle, anyone?) and is also home to an exquisite collection of drinks. The luxurious bar is worth a few photos, fronting sparkling chandeliers and a golden-tiled counter, lined with black leather seats. Decadent-looking, it's the ideal spot to mull things over with a glass of wine, especially on one of its live music nights. Sip on a chardonnay from France or a Shiraz from Australia and wolf down some scrumptious, proper Scottish cuisine like its 'Address To A Haggis' offering, served with whisky gravy.

Veeno Edinburgh

It's in the name with Veeno AKA the perfect place to hit up if you're looking for wine and cheese in Edinburgh. The bright and airy space is home to some impressive bottles sourced from a family-run vineyard in Italy. Interior-wise, they're pretty minimal, with pops of red and rails of bottles completing its laid-back look. You can purchase wine flights here, such as the Naturalmente Bio, made up of organic picks, and a selection of vegan offerings too. Also, the cool joint offers wine tastings from £50 per person, which are worth doing after you've devoured one of its 'grande boards' (£34.95), made up of sliced meats and cheeses.

The Devil’s Advocate Bar & Kitchen

Bursting with rustic interiors (think bare brick walls and raw stone), The Devil's Advocate Bar & Kitchen is located within a historical Victorian pump house, retaining many of its old, industrial features while adding modern touches, such as cosy booths lit with candles. It's a high-ceilinged den that's home to over 300 Scottish and world whiskies, as well as a celebrated wine list and selection of craft beers. Sip on Laurent-Perrier Cuveé Rosé Brut and tuck into some local eats, like plates of smoked fish and charcuterie boards.

The Bon Vivant

Since opening in 2008, The Bon Vivant has continued to present a relaxed dining style reminiscent of bistros you'd find across Europe. Focusing on quality produce and selecting only the finest of wines, it can be found down Thistle Street welcoming thirsty passers-by with open arms. Its decor is moody yet opulent thanks to its dark marble tables and soft, brown curtains paired with slightly erotic artwork. You'll discover a selection of vintage and non-vintage Champagne and sparkling wines on the drinks list, as well as orange, red and more. Each can be uniquely paired with plates of pork belly, pan-fried cod and wild mushroom risotto.

Murrayfield Bothy

Murrayfield Bothy can be uncovered on the ground floor of the four-star hotel, among dark, purple curtains complemented by rusted orange light fixtures. Whether you're visiting with family or are on a weekend getaway, it's a top choice for those keen on drinking global wines and nibbling on delightful, fresh Scottish plates. From the main menu, pair your Californian rosé with some smoked almonds and salted popcorn, feast on old Dehli-style butter chicken served with a fluffy flatbread alongside a La Maglia pinot grigio, or the pretty bar's signature burger with an Australian shiraz.

Luckenbooths

If you happen to be wandering through Edinburgh's Old Town and feeling thirsty for a glass of red, then stop by Luckenbooths, the all-day dining destination offering a seriously tempting wine menu. Inside, you'll find minimalistic decor in the form of rich, wooden cabinets storing luxurious bottles and pastel blue panelling. Large windows help light up the dining space where visitors can be seen tucking into some of the finest Scottish produce, like cured sea trout with capers and caviar, paired with a speciality glass of Picpoul de Pinet from France. And if you're looking to see some sights while you sip, you'll love its suntrap terrace overlooking the city, making it one of the best Edinburgh wine bars with a view.

Divino Enoteca

Divino Enoteca is up there with natural wine bars in Endinburgh as the Italian restaurant knows a thing or two about sourcing the finest bottles from across the regions. Marvel at the stripped-back walls creating a European villa vibe in the heart of the Old Town, then slink into a rich mustard cushioned chair to enjoy wine by the glass. The food menu is comprised of ingredients directly imported from Italy and includes droolworthy plates such as bruschetta topped with a rocket and almond pesto, plus a ragu made using Tuscan red wine, braised beef and pork.
