What they say:

Here in Britain, we’re a little bit obsessed with style. With everything so fancy, good dive bars in general a sacred and hard to come by – but now one bar in Digbeth is hoping to make a difference. Meet The Ruin, a pub that literally does what it says on the door. Modelled on the ruin bars of Budapest, walk through and you can expect a shabby interior made of ruined doors, mismatched, recycled furniture and even a chandelier. In fact, random artefacts are a running theme, with Amstrad computers sitting unashamedly next to classroom clocks showing the time in other parts of the world.

What we say:

The trick with purposefully making a ruin bar is not to let it look sloppy. These guys have tried to round off the edges with cool street art in their outside seating area, depicting broken walls that reveal fields of green and bright blue skies. Which is a pleasant backdrop as you help yourself to their beer selection. As well as your classics, they’ve got cask ales and ciders, and a selection of craft bottled beer too. And while they don’t offer food at the moment, they are currently working on it – hopefully that news doesn’t… RUIN your experience there.
