Taking over the loft of the Jewellery Quarter's 1,000 Trades, The Vanguard is a specialist cocktail bar and meadery. Headed up by cocktail consultant and expert bartender, Samuel Boulton, the bar stocks a fantastic range of artisan spirits, homemade ingredients such as strawberry-infused water and a selection of Gosnells mead. The Vanguard is the first solo venture from Boulton who previously launched the bar at Harvey Nichols and has worked on projects with Gabriel Boudier and Chairman's Reserve.

It would appear that mead is back on the menu at this new Birmingham cocktail bar. Having seen a clear decline since the 16th century, the fermented-honey brew has found an audience at The Vanguard who pride themselves on selling South London-brewed Gosnells mead. The new venue located upstairs at 1,000 Trades in the Jewellery Quarter, is an interesting new addition to the area, serving up a regularly changing selection of delicious cocktails and a host or artisan spirits alongside this throwback booze.
