Hungarian Wine Tasting: Visiting Wine Makers from Szeremley and Barta

- Bedales of Borough Market
Description
Bedales is proud to welcome Hungarian winemakers/owners from Szeremley AND Barta. Meet the the makers, as they share with you some of their personal favourites in this special and intimate tasting in the hidden wine room at Borough Market!
Szeremley family works a 115-hectare vineyard in the heart of the Balaton Uplands National Park. Szeremley Estate is known as 'The First Hungarian Wine House'. They harvest typical Hungarian grape sorts called hungarikums: the gynoecious Kéknyelű, which has been a renowned Badacsony variety for centuries, and is only cultivated in this region, along with its pollinating pair, the Buda green, once a famous grape sort of the Buda wine region, but only found in the Badacsony today. And the grape variety Zeus, known the world over as the late-harvest speciality of the winehouse, has gained popularity among wine enthusiasts due to its minerality and fresh acids.
Barta harvests grapes on the most imposing and steepest areas of Király-hegy. After nearly three years work, this legendary 10-ha terraced estate had been revived. They strive to preserve this special land and its soil as much as possible for future generations; thus they cultivate the vineyards organically. This is true of their winemaking too: employing the least intervention possible and use organic methods to create our wines. The wines reflect the exceptional terroir: the land, vineyard orientation, weather conditions of the vintage and the character of those involved in making the wines – to present exclusive and unrepeatable lots.
Light nibbles will be served.
