There's been a real surge in activity bars opening across Newcastle in the last year or so, and the most recent of these is Flight Club, a group that originated in London in 2015 and has since seen success up and down the country. These guys are all about darts, with innovative, electronic boards that add up your scores for you as you go - a quirky twist on the classic bar game. I had tried out one of their venues in the capital a couple of years ago, and was keen to return, so when this Nelson Street location opened in November 2025, it seemed like the perfect excuse.
The interiors here follow a vintage theme.
DesignMyNight's Review Of Flight Club Newcastle
Found just opposite Grainger Market, this spot was deceptively spacious - though that didn't mean it wasn't packed full of customers on a busy Saturday night. The stylish decor is inspired by vintage fairgrounds, featuring glowing lights and old-school floral patterns. All the staff were very attentive, and they showed us to our oche straight away. This came with a table, comfy leather booth seating and even space to store our bags, making it ideal for setting up with a group of friends for the evening. They also showed us how to use the boards, complete with an interactive screen and even a camera that records all your best moments to send to you after your visit.
Their social darts prices start from £9 per person, per hour, though we opted for a 90-minute booking (from £13 per person). Between four of us, this gave us the time to try out all of their whacky minigames, and we wasted no time getting started. Our first choice (that we all agreed at the end was our favourite) was Demolition - a take on the traditional 301 game where you have to check out first, made easier by not having to finish on a double. This was possibly my most victorious moment of the night, securing a crucial six points after not hitting a single space I'd been aiming for all game.
The oches here come with your own private space to relax.
Me and my friend split a bottle of Monastrell Rosado rosé (£24) as we played, a pale pink tipple with soft floral and berry flavours. The others both opted for a simple double vodka blackcurrant and lemonade (£11.25 each). Halfway through our session (though there is also ample seating in the bar if you wanted to wait until afterwards), we ordered some food to share as well.
The veggie feast pizza (£17) is designed to be shared between two or more people, offering a generous number of slices and served on a long paddle. This was topped with mozzarella, roasted red peppers, red onions and portobello mushrooms, finished with a unique red pepper sauce that had a slight kick to it. My firm favourite was the baked camembert (£13), cooked into a circle of tearable sourdough bread that was coated in garlic butter - full of rich, tangy flavour and making for the ultimate indulgent snack.
On a slightly fresher note, the hummus and crudites (£10) was a colourful board of chopped up carrots, peppers, cucumber, a chimichurri flatbread and tortilla chips. This came with both classic and red pepper hummus, and was great for cutting through the salty, fatty dishes we had ordered alongside it. Speaking of which, the popcorn chicken (£9) was beautifully crispy and served with a delicious sweet chilli sauce. We also had a side of skin-on fries (£5), which were perfectly fluffy inside, but we felt they lacked a little flavour - though we possibly should have just asked for some sauce on these.
The Flight Club menu features all sorts of small plates and sharers.
Of course, we were right back to darts after eating, along with another drinks order of the same as before. Other games includes Snakes and Ladders, combining the well known board game with darts, and Limbo, a challenging contest where each player had to get a lower score than the last. Of course, it was during this game that I hit the first treble 20 of my life. their screens give you a handy demonstration for each game, and we were also able to take some group photos here, which they emailed to us later.
Overall: Newcastle's Flight Club
I was certainly not disappointed by my second visit to Flight Club, and thanks to a 90-minute booking, we were able to try out all of their fantastic multiplayer games. This is a great spot for birthdays, team nights out or just because, with bookings available throughout the week. And though the food perhaps isn't their primary focus, there was nothing lacking in that department - they've got a versatile menu filled with tasty plates, both small and large. I could happily spend a whole afternoon or evening here, though its proximity to Bigg Market and its surrounding streets also make it a great start to any night out.
