Stow

Description

Hidden just off Bridge Street, Stow has quickly become one of Manchester’s most exciting modern dining rooms, bringing fire‑led cooking and laid‑back confidence to the city centre. The space is intimate and unfussy, with the open kitchen taking centre stage so diners can watch flames, embers and grills in constant motion. There’s a sociable front bar for cocktails and wine before or after dinner, but the real magic happens at the counter seats, where the warmth of the fire and the energy of the kitchen create a quietly thrilling atmosphere.

The restaurant is owned by Jamie Pickles and Matt Nellany, with Pickles leading the kitchen. The food is modern British, cooked entirely over live fire with no fryers or conventional ovens in sight. Menus are compact, seasonal and ingredient‑led, leaning heavily on exceptional produce and letting smoke, char and heat do the heavy lifting. Expect beautifully judged small plates, confident mains and inventive vegetables that proving fire isn’t just for meat.

Since opening in late 2024, Stow has already made an impact well beyond the city, earning a Michelin Guide recommendation and glowing national reviews for its bold simplicity and sense of fun. With its combination of thoughtful cooking, serious flavour and relaxed hospitality, Stow feels perfectly tuned to the way Manchester likes to eat right now - informal, ambitious and quietly brilliant.
