Description
Higher Ground in Manchester is a modern British bistro located in the city’s Chinatown district, known for its minimalist yet welcoming interior. The space features a long central island that functions as an open kitchen, bar, and dining counter, creating an immersive and interactive dining experience. The design is clean and contemporary, with natural materials and warm lighting that reflect the restaurant’s ethos of simplicity and sustainability. The atmosphere is relaxed but refined, making it ideal for both casual lunches and special dinners.
The restaurant is the brainchild of Joseph Otway, Richard Cossins, and Daniel Craig Martin: three hospitality veterans who met while working at the acclaimed Blue Hill at Stone Barns in New York. Their shared vision emphasizes regenerative farming, seasonal British produce, and low-intervention wines.
Around 90% of their ingredients are sourced from Cinderwood Market Garden, their own organic farm in Cheshire. Chef Joseph Otway, formerly of Where The Light Gets In and Copenhagen’s Relæ, leads the kitchen with a focus on thoughtful, produce-driven dishes. Higher Ground has earned a place on the National Restaurant Awards Top 100 list, praised for its impeccable sourcing, creative cooking, and commitment to sustainability.
