The Beech Inn

The Beech Inn photo

The Beech Inn is a pub-lover's pub. Pubs in Manchester often make their mark by being a little bit different, whether through the food offering, live music, marvelous menus... But the Beech manages to calmly, quietly contain everything about a traditional pub that doesn't need much embellishment at all! The beer is superb (they hold the Cask Marque Award for serving great quality real ale), with a good selection of regular (Landlord, Black Sheep) and guest ales, while the wine list satisfies non-ale drinkers. It's brilliantly dog-friendly, and a great place for local drinkers and walkers to kick back and relax in an entirely pretension-free environment.
There are three main spaces within The Beech – two rooms off the double-sided bar, and a snug complete with board games galore which hosts regular folk nights every Wednesday, and out the back, there's a large beer garden, a real sun trap in the summer. The pub doesn't have a kitchen as such (although crisps and scampi fries are all present and correct) – but since the start of 2013, has hosted MasterChef 2011 finalist, Jackie Kearney (aka The Hungry Gecko), and her Retro Rocket Kitchen-caravan Barbarella! Barbarella is parked up in the beer garden, and serves gourmet Asian street food from 4pm on Fridays, and from 12pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Beech is one of my favourite Manchester pubs! It's dead relaxed and the beer is always good, although I wish they did food all week long. I like the different rooms - it's deceptively big and you can usually get a seat at any time.
