Burton Road's answer to a prohibition-era bar, The Violet Hour, is celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the US Repeal of Prohibition by inviting you along for a whole host of 1920s style speakeasy madness.

In real 1920s speakeasy style, live music, courtesy of The Prohibition Swing Club band, will be playing all night long, producing tunes to get you on your feet. Celebrate everything 1920s, and grab a cocktail from their Prohibition-Era cocktail list that will be made specifically for the event. Expect classics like the Mary Pickford and the Old Fashioned. As if this wasn't enough, The Violet Hour are giving away all of their cocktails for a mere £5 - *almost* prohibition prices! Speakeasy chic fancy dress is encouraged; the best dressed contenders will be in to win free shots. Keep your ears peeled for a secret password, which, when whispered into the bartender's ear earns you a shot of bootlegged bourbon too!

Coinciding on the same day as West Didsbury's annual Christmas lights switch on, the event will take place from 7:30pm onwards, once the lights have been turned on and Burton Road is looking all festive. It's a free event - so there's little reason not to go to this roaring ruckus.

We love the name, too which is apparently from The Hour, a 1950s cocktail manifesto by Bernard DeVoto: “This is the violet hour, the hour of hush and wonder…
