Follow in the footsteps of power on this walk around the oldest part of London and the smallest county in the UK - the City. We'll look at how the City of London really is a city within a city, and acts like a state within a state, as a law unto itself. On the tour you will get a chance to:
- Visit the ancient body that runs the City – the City of London Corporation
- Discover how companies like Goldman Sachs and the Bank of China get to vote every year in UK elections.
- Understand why for centuries, money flowed into the City of London, and why today so much of it is going offshore.
The tour starts on London Bridge and ends near the Guildhall, and lasts around an hour and a half.
Your guide will be the comic, economist and writer - Susie Steed: www.susiesteed.com
Meeting Point:
We’ll meet on London Bridge, on the South Side. If you go on to the bridge, just up from Borough High Street you will see two dragons, one on each side of the road. These mark the official boundary of the City of London. I will be by the one that will be on your right if you are facing the river - it is almost outside the big office block at 1 London Bridge. If you want a postcode to head for, the London Grind bar (2 London Bridge, SE1 9RA) is the closest but I’ll be on the other side of the road to them. There is a more detailed map here.
