Jack the Ripper is possibly the most written about unknown individual in history. Endless works of criminology - of varying degrees of plausibility - have been written on the subject of the Whitechapel Murders and over a hundred possible suspects have been identified, including an English Duke, a Russian secret policeman, Queen Victoria’s obstetrician and even Lewis Carroll. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle believed that the murderer was a woman and dubbed her “Jill the Ripper”. The world’s most famous serial killer has also featured in several hundred works of fiction, ranging from Victorian penny dreadfuls to Star Trek.
