THE END OF ALL THINGS
A History of the Apocalypse
A salon in the cemetery with Dr Richard Barnett
Humans have always had a morbid fascination with the End of the World. Before modern annihilation scenarios like nuclear war, eco-catastrophe and cybergeddon, we had the Revelation of St John the Divine - the final book of the Bible. Its cast of epic characters, the Antichrist, the Beast and the Whore of Babylon, have inspired everyone from evangelists to science fiction writers and heavy metal bands.
In this talk, Dr Barnett traces the remarkable influence of these lurid, punitive fantasies in contemporary politics, literature and pop culture. Along the way you will encounter wild-eyed peasant revolutionaries and slickly tailored Antichrists, nuclear-armed demons and hilltop disappointments. Join him or be damned – though you might be damned anyway.
Tickets £12 including a Hendrick's Gin Cocktail
