Hugh Hefner started Playboy magazine in 1953 with a loan from his mother. The first edition featured unauthorised nude photos of Marilyn Monroe. It was an instant success, selling 50,000 copies. The magazine, its spin-off Playboy clubs and Playboy bunnies and its founder’s flamboyant lifestyle became emblematic of the sexual revolution of the 1960s.

In 2012 Hefner married this third wife, Crystal Harris, who like many of his previous paramours was a former Playmate of the Month in the magazine and was 60 years his junior. Their marriage lasted until Hefner’s death in 2017 at the age of 91, just a month before the #MeToo movement was born.

Crystal Hefner will be in conversation with author and journalist Pandora Harris. She will tell us of life inside the Playboy Mansion, the objectification and misogyny she faced and how her young adulthood was stolen, furnishing a rare insight into Hugh Hefner’s final days.

Crystal Hefner

Crystal Hefner is a world-renowned model, advocate, and entrepreneur. Crystal spent 10 years of her life inside the Playboy Mansion; since Hugh Hefner’s death in 2017 she’s worked hard to recover from what she experienced there. Crystal now shares her learnings about objectification and beauty standards with her 10 million followers on social media and dedicates herself to bringing awareness of feminist issues to other young women.

A former editor at The Sunday Times Style magazine, she has written for publications including The Guardian, Vogue, House & Garden, The Cut, Elle, Grazia, GQ and The Evening Standard and is the author of the best-selling essay collection, How Do We Know We’re Doing It Right? which came out in 2020 and editor of the anthology, What Writers Read: 35 Writers On Their Favourite Book, which came out in 2022, with all proceeds going to The National Literacy Trust. I'm writing this on behalf of Artists for Gaza. We did not consent for this listing. The information is outdated and the ticket link is not going to the right platform. Our ticket sale is £35 and not £50 so please go to our website www.artistsforgaza.org.uk to get your cheaper ticket. We have contacted Design My Night to flag this.

While the tour by Dr Green was very well presented and interesting, the little scenes in between were incredibly poorly planned and rehearsed, to comical effect, but below expectations at this price point. We were also expecting more than one small cup of hot chocolate halfway through the freezing cold tour, as the ticket cost of £35 is definitely on the high side for a packed group like this. We still enjoyed the tour itself, but expected a lot more.
