Join us for an evening with NoDirectionHome as we host a special screening of the acclaimed psychological drama by British writer-director Luna Carmoon, followed by a Q&A session with the Luna and the film’s producer Loran Dunn.
Luna Carmoon draws from her own life to craft this bracing psychological drama, which won Best First Feature at the BFI London Film Festival 2023 and swept three prizes at the Venice Film Festival, including Most Innovative Film and the Audience Award.
The film follows the journey of seven-year-old Maria and her mother played by Hayley Squires who live in a loving yet unconventional world, collecting shiny rubbish. One fateful night, their world shatters, and a decade later, we find Maria Laura Lightfoot Leon living with her foster mother. As she navigates her new life, she encounters an animalistic stranger Joseph Quinn, igniting a fierce and emotional story about burgeoning sexuality, grief, and a traumatic past.
Described by The Guardian as “a deeply strange and compelling study of hysteria” and praised for its audacious storytelling, Carmoon’s debut announces her as a talent to watch.
