The next chapter of the Night Tales story is about to unfold... Fresh back from a research trip to Tokyo, the Night Tales team will be transforming their 25,000sq ft home in Shoreditch into a scene from the back streets of Japan. NightTales have taken inspiration from some of Tokyo’s best restaurants and cocktail bars, local markets and famous districts to deliver a real and authentic interpretation of the city. Tokyo Nights will take you on a tour of the buzzing metropolitan city and touch on scenes from Old Japan.

Launching on October 29th 2015 for an eight week run you can expect to see four new concept bars, eight private Ryokans(Japanese houses), all available for private hire and six new food partners serving a mix of knockout Asian and contemporary food.

FOOD

New food partners include:

Patty&Bun will be back and on the menu with Confit chicken wings with a ponzu glaze, white sesame and chilli crust. They are also doing chips with Togarashi salt. Other food partners include Bubble Dog’s, Nanny Bill’s, Walter&Monty,Dorshi (Authentic Japanese Gyoza Dumplings) and Brilliant Corners.

Ritsuko&Co Supper Club

Limited dates only

Founded by Tokyo-born Yoshiko Wada, who grew up in an environment of traditional culinary excellence passed down by her grandmother, Japanese cuisine has evolved from a rich culture that emphasises the importance of seasonality and quality ingredients. At Tokyo Nights, Yoshiko and her team will be preparing a seven-course taster meal in a private Japanese dining room. Pre-bookings required.

DRINKS

Background Bars have taken inspiration from a mixture of local Japanese bars on the Golden Gai strip to institutions like the Park Hyatt Hotel in Shinjuku and have carefully designed authentic and fresh cocktail menus exclusive to Tokyo Nights.

the idea and the concept of the event was good and the place looked pretty genuine. The problem (and partially it was out fault) is that we arrived a bit late for the seating of the Ramusake and we were just told that we have lost our place and there were not other slots available so we paid £70 someone else had our dinner and we were offer no compensation of suitable alternative. the food stalls were OK but nothing spectacular and the cocktails nothing special either Rickyspa1 visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 30 Oct 2015

I agree with holly. The usual overpriced shoreditch junk but I'd have had a better deal if buying at the door instead of getting a ticket off the website. Queue jump wasn't necessary and the food was limited and expensive, especially for street food. It also was about as unauthentic as it gets. The scenery just looked like any other pop up really except for the addition of some Japanese lanterns. Standard music that no one wants to dance to and not enough places to sit. Wouldn't go again and we only stayed about an hour and a half niaelindavies visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 31 Oct 2015

Whole thing very disappointing. There were only about 5 food stalls and the 2 bars served exactly the same drinks. However, the scenery looked authentic and there was a good atmosphere. We paid £35 to go to the Ramusake Japanese 5 course tasting meal and felt very let down. The portions were tiny, no alcohol included and the staff just plonked the dishes down on the table without explaining what they were. When I asked what one of the dishes was, the waitress was not able to tell me and had to ask her colleague. For a 'foodie' event and at that sort of price I expected far more. I'm not sure how I feel about my visit to Tokyo nights. I think I was expecting more, although we did have a good night, The number of heaters provided for such a large open space is not great, the cider bar in Southbank did better with the coal pits. There wasn't as much Japanese as hoped for. The staff we friendly enough but we got messed about with the placement of the said heaters. Shame for something so small to ruin a night but we moved to the bar across the road to the warm

Disappointing event. The Japanese theme was barely there. I had paid £12 for 'queue jump' advance entry, and there were no queues, and actually not much to queue for.! But at least it gave me a free cocktail, which was nice. It is essentially a yard with some paper lanterns and random beer/food stalls, so very exposed to London cold. The food was tasty (had a ramen soup with pork dumplings), but not quite big enough portions for the price. The only interesting parts of the set-up were privately booked so I couldn't access them. The staff were friendly though! Not worth the effort in my opinion. helen visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 28 Oct 2015

Had great difficulty finding the place. It's not where google maps says it is so spent 20 minutes getting lost around Old Street. Go early to allow for this. Tasting menu was delicious but we were still hungry afterwards. Denielle visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 06 Nov 2015

Just alright. Nice surroundings but the food stalls were lacking in Japanese food! Lots of American style food (albeit with a Japanese flair). The queue jump with the free cocktail was worthwhile doing. Claire visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 19 Nov 2015

the 5 course tasting menu was yummy! Great night out :-) Should have stayed open longer as dinner was at 9pm so not much time to enjoy the rest of the place. Karen visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 04 Nov 2015

Amazing night! The food stalls weren't that great but we paid for the Ramusake sitting and the food was amazing! Great amosphere and I can't wait for the actual restaurant to open in Shoreditch! Stephanie visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 05 Nov 2015

The look is amazing this year, and I absolutely LOVED the mock-up LoveHotel and selection of street food (nice one Patty and Bun), but the booking of tables makes this feel too exclusive for a street food event in east london. Extra heaters would be neat too as we had to leave early.

Great potential but delivery could be much improved. The staging was good but food options are limited compared to neighbouring food markets like Dinerama. We paid for a space downstairs next to the DJ booth it wasn't worth £250 at all we were pretty exposed to the elements and the heater gave minimal benefit. The 'table service' was only to one of the bars. There was much more they could have done to add value to guests who have paid more i.e. queue jumps for food and seperate toilets. There was no water in the loos to flush or to wash your hands - not great when eating with your hands. The music was awesome! Emma visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 11 Nov 2015

Amazing food. Awfully cold. November temperature tried to ruin my delight is some of the most beautifully delicately wonderfully flavoured food. Great food, terrific atmosphere but a heater or blankets would have been welcome. Brianalisa visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 20 Oct 2015

Paid £12 for 6 of us for the queue jump, there was no queue, only 5 of us could go, but couldn't claim the extra drink that the £12 entitled us to. Freezing cold, nowhere enough heaters. Very little real Japanese food. DJs good, but the rest a rip off Gareth visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 04 Nov 2015

The place was cool and the chef was lovely but it was SO cold inside the tent...they could have organised heaters or something, we were literally eating outside and it was about 3 degrees. The food was delicious but the portions were too small, not really worth £35. Felt like I had eaten a couple of starters... salomevanleuven visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 20 Oct 2015

The place looks awesome and is pretty good value. Hugely disappointed at the lack of Japanese food, though, especially seafood. It's more Shoreditch nights than Tokyo nights. We left early because we're not meat eaters and there weren't any non-meat options, save a couple of mushroom dumplings. Shame Steve visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 03 Nov 2015

Queue jumping tickets worth it. Cocktails delicious! Enjoyed the food but wish there was sashimi and healthier options. Wine ok. Atmosphere and music fantastic. We were also lucky to have received free food at the upstairs bar. Fun night. Helena visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 06 Nov 2015

Even though there was no queue to jump when we got there Thursday night at 730pm the "queue jump" tickets didn't go to waste as we received a free entry cocktail (the Dark & Stormy spin was delicious!). We had expected there to be more Japanese cuisine items available such as yakitori and ramen but were quite pleased with the gyoza dumplings from Dorshi. We ended up ordering two dozen more for our group they were so fantastic! Other props go to Nanny & Bills for their katsu chicken sandwich. dl.knowles visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 06 Nov 2015

Gone to Tokyo Nights twice already. Queue jump was pretty cool since you get a free drink and walk past everyone on the line. Second time was for the tasting menu which I have to admit it was good but the event outside is better. Susan visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 14 Oct 2015

Great vibe. Good food and drinks and not too expensive. Not worth buying the queue jump though as the free drink is only worth £7.50 and we went Saturday night and walked straight in! elecjrhfifendk visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 20 Oct 2015

Tasty cocktails, a delicious array of food stalls and not too crowded. Drinks might have been a little pricey but overall a fun experience. The katsu burger was particularly good as were the dumplings. Philip visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 02 Nov 2015

Been to Summer Tales and was a bit disappointed by Tokyo Nights. Long queues for the dumplings, which were OK, and pretty much the only Asian dish. No sight of real Japanese food!! simwan visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 13 Oct 2015

Bought a 'Queue Jump' ticket and had to queue up for half an hour in the rain while those who did not use this rubbish website did not queue and got in for free. Should be called 'Waste My Night' as event was also rubbish, nothing Japanese about it. Stephen visited Night Tales Shoreditch on 26 Oct 2015
