A Live, Illustrated Zoom Talk with writer Gary Lachman

In the closing years of the 19th century, the Russian philosopher Nikolai Fedorov - savant, sage, and friend of Dostoevsky and Tolstoy - was inspired by an idea that came to be an obsession: the literal resurrection of the dead. Federov called this "the common task" and he believed it would unite the people's of the earth in a single, all-embracing goal, that would lead to an age of unheard of prosperity and harmony.

Decades later, this idee fixe, mad as it sounds, became the motivation for the Soviet space program, and Fedorov's ideas today find fellow travellers in the "trans" and "post" human movement. In this talk, Gary Lachman will discuss Federov's obsession, examining how it informs ideas about a technologically driven future human evolution.

Tickets £4 including a 20% donation to NHS Charities Together.
